In the book it says, “they cut off our braids on the back of our heads.” Where the character specifically finds conflict is at the boarding school. By getting hit by a stick for speaking his original language. Kii also deals with tings positively buy thinking before doing anything.

He joined the military and became a code talker. Then his name gets changed and he is one of the best students in his class. But one day he heard on the radio the marines need Navajo’s so he wants to do it. He goes home and tells his parents and asks for their blessing but the say next year he can join marines.  So the the next year comes and he goes to a Navajo’s church and dose a ritual to stay safe. When he’s at the place to sign a permission slip so that he can go to war. After that he starts training with the other Navajo’s. Once his training was done he went to  war. He is also treated badly, if he speaks a word in Navajo he will get soap in his mouth. In boarding school he didn’t have a lot of friends he was on his own most of the time. In high school he study’s Japan. The U.S marines start hiring navajos for a secret mission. So when he signs up he is sent to a camp. Here he learns that his is a Navajo code talker. He study’s the Navajo code that they will use. When he gets to guadacanal he is greeted by a rain of fire.
