External Conflict
External conflict is when two characters are in conflict with each other. In the story,"Flowers for Algernon," the external conflict is when Charlie races Algernon. In the the text it states," Anyway that test made me feel worser than all the others because they did it over 10 times with difernt amazeds and Algernon won every time"(Keyes 87). He started to get angry and frustrated at Algernon because Algernon continues to beat Charlie. This example shows the external conflict between Charlie and Algernon.

Static Character
Ms Flynn is a static character. A static character being a character staying the same the entire time. Ms Flynn is the same as she was in the beginning. We know this because when Ms Flynn was first introduced it says, "A nice cop brot me back home. Thats what my landlady Ms Flynn says"(Keyes 94). Near the end of the story it says, "Mrs Flynn called a strange doctor to see me. She was afraid I was going to die"(Keyes 121). This clearly shows that Mrs Flynn is a static character because she consistently stays worried about him for the duration of the story.

The theme of the story "Flowers for Algernon" is that you shouldn't change yourself to fit in. Theme is the overall message or lesson about life. Charlie did the operation to increase his intelligence, so he could be smart like everyone else. However, he gains to much knowledge and becomes lonely. For example, "Its a funny thing I never knew that Joe and Frank liked to have me around all of the time just to make fun of me" (Keyes 99-100). This shows he found out that he didn't have friends with his newfound smarts. He tried to change himself, but the result caused him to be alone, with the knowledge that he was always companion less.

Symbolism:
An act of symbolism in the story " Flowers For Algernon" would be the boy in the diner. The boy in the diner symbolizes Charlie before his operation to gain intelligence. This is because in the story it clearly states, "They were laughing at him because he was mentally"( Keyes 111). This evidence shows symbolism because during the story the boy dropped glass plates causing them to shatter. This made the other employees laugh at the boy and even made Charlie laugh as well. However, the boy did not understand why they were laughing at him. After a while, Charlie noticed why they were laughing and immediately stopped. Similar the boy in the diner, Charlie was laughed at because of his lack of intelligence.

A dynamic character in the story would obviously be Charlie. Before the operation, Charlie was mentally disabled and unable to read or write well. For example, Charlie was given a test before the operation (A Rorschach test) to test his imagination that he couldn't do at all, in the story Charlie states, "I dont think I passed the raw shok test" (Keyes 85). Later in the story, Charlie retakes the test after the operation, and now can imagine pictures when he take the test, "One of them looked like a pair of bats tugging at something" (Keyes 102). This shows Charlie has changed between before the operation and after.

Text Structure
The text structure in the story "Flowers for Algernon" would be chronological order because it shows his progress reports in order by date. The structure helps tell the story by showing Charlie's spelling errors and grammar mistakes from the time before the operation, and then when he slowly started to regress mentally after the operation . The story tells the events that take place from 1st person point of view. Charlie talks about what he goes through on a daily basis through the progress reports, which helps the readers see his feelings on topics and certain situations. An example is when Charlie was at the diner, and a young boy broke dishes in the kitchen. Then everyone started laughing at him. As Charlie said in the story, "Only a short time ago, I learned that people laughed at me. Now I can see that unknowingly I joined with them in laughing at myself. That hurts most of all" (Keyes 112). This quote shows how Charlie personally felt about the incident and if someone else were telling the story their perspective might've been completely different.

Reynaldo & jamani Internal conflict

In "Flowers for Algernon" Charlie, showed internal conflict at the end of the story by talking to himself about how he doesn't want to lose his intelligence. In the story it states,"I remembered how great I thought John Milton was, but when I picked up Paradise Lost, I couldn't understand it at all. I got so angry I threw the book across the room. I've got to try to hold on to some of it. Some of the things I've learned. Oh, God, please don't take it all away"(Keyes 118). This is internal conflict because Charlie Gordon has wanted to be smart for a long time and he doesn't want to lose his intelligence because he wants to understand whats going on in his life.

Olivia & William Internal Conflict with Mis. Kinnian

In "Flowers for Algernon," an example of internal conflict is when Miss Kinnian felt guilty about recommending Charlie to go through the operation to improve his intelligence. For instance, in the story, she went to his apartment, but she started to cry after realizing that Charlie was regressing. She decided to pay his rent because she was aware of his regression (Keyes 122). This shows Internal Conflict by her blaming herself for Charlie's chance of possibly dying. So, she feels like its her fault for Charlie's regression and chance of dying, which shows her guilt.

The allusion we chose from the story"Flowers for Algernon" is the book "Paradise Lost" by John Milton. The reason the author mentioned this book is because of the title. This means that someone is losing their paradise. In the story it states, "I remembered how great I thought John Milton was, but when I picked up paradise lost, I couldn't understand it at all. I got so angry I threw the book across the room"(Keyes 118) . Charlie relates to this because he is losing his intelligence, and that is his paradise. For the longest time, Charlie had wanted to be smart, so when he was chosen for the operation that improves intelligence, it was like his paradise. When he started losing his intelligence, he became angry because he's losing his paradise.

In the story, Flowers for Algernon, the theme is people should not change things the way they are meant to be. Charlie, the main character, is mentally disabled and thinks that acquiring knowledge will change him for the better. In the passage, Fanny Girden says,"It was evil when she saw that she was naked if not for that, none of us would ever have to grow old and sick and die"(Keyes107.)This reference from the Bible is clarifying that because of Eve's choices, she affected everyone else around her. Something that seemed small, when ruptured could change in to something much bigger. Charlie thought that becoming smart would change what people thought of him when really most did not even recognize him. Charlie was ashamed of who he was and no longer wanted to pull a "Charlie Gordon." So therefore, the authors message to the reader is to accept the circumstance you were given, and that some things are made to be the way they are.
