Through the study of the history influenced by culture, geography, government, movement, etc., it is hopeful that students gain the understanding that we have a responsibility to learn from the past, appreciate how the past shapes the present, and to make decisions to make the world a better place in the future. Creating original artwork takes planning, focus, technical skills, an editing eye, and adherence to a timeline. Learning a musical instrument/realizing one’s vocal skills takes patience, concentration, critical listening skills, trial and error (grit), and again, adherence to a timeline. Ensemble experiences, including theatrical productions, require students to collaborate with peers while maintaining a positive attitude and attend to a conductor/director (work as a team.) Most importantly, experience in all arts endeavors gives our kids greater insight into the human condition, encouraging greater empathy and understanding.
