The California ELD standards are designed to be used in tandem with California Common Core SS for the E/LA. Students in any classroom either mathematics or biology or chemistry should be supported by any means to better achieve goals/being more capable of reaching the content/material. Strategies such as SDAIE or GLAD, etc. are all good strategies but they are not the only ones to be used in order to help ELD students also comprehend the material at the same level as their EO counterparts.

Regarding biliteracy - Biliteracy should be bilateral, meaning English speakers should learn Spanish, just as Spanish speaking students learn English.

I did not know about the "gold seal"... This sounds more in-tune with much of the world that requires second languages.

The comprehensive Instructional program for Els is great in theory, however, the lack of science and history for ALL students is a travesty.

Teachers with EL's in their classroom should be using both the CA ELD Standards and the CA CCSS standards for ELA/Literacy standards for content instruction to ensure EL's are being properly supported across the disciplines.

Really, integrated ELD is simply good teaching. We want to target as many students as possible in a lesson: those who learn visually, orally, etc.

Using the ELD standards means that you will reach many more students than you normally would teaching in a monotone-style.
