         <description><![CDATA[<div>Earth is a small planet circling the sun, it consists of many layers. These include the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and the biosphere. The biosphere is where life on earth exists, and there can be microorganisms up to several kilometres beneath the earths surface! My favourite part about this section is the Gaia hypothesis. It states that the earth acts as a living organism as it maintains a sustainable environment and responds to changes in the environment. I love this theory because I think it's just a beautiful way to look at the world. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>All organisms need energy to survive. Most energy on the planet comes from the sun. One way organisms get energy is photosynthesis. This is a process which turns light energy into sugars, which are used to feed a plant, and it also helps with nutrition, reproduction and growth. There is also cellular respiration, which is a process that turns sugars and oxygen into energy. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This section we learn about each place that organisms have in an ecosystem. This "role" that an organism plays is called an ecological niche. This identifies how it behaves, what food it eats and much more. Some categories of consumers include herbivore, omnivore, carnivore, and scavenger. One way to understand this complex system is a food chain or a food web. It just shows who eats who in an ecosystem. For example, the grass gives energy to the rabbit, which gives energy to the hawk, which gives energy to the owl. It helps you better understand by laying out the system in a simple way.</div>]]></description>

There are many conditions needed for any life to be able to survive.<br>7) What interested me most was the "Gaia Hypothesis" that earth is like a living organism. Abiotic: temperature, wind, sunlight, sand and ice.<br>2) Communities include abiotic features, since they are formed when abiotic and biotic features interact.<br>3) A backyard, tree, schoolyard, vase of flowers, potted plant, and the digestive system are all ecosystems because there are both abiotic and biotic features interacting.<br>4) This is false, humans impact everything around us, including abiotic features. For example, pollution effects not only animals and other living things but also the air and land.&nbsp;<br>5) A large city would be a community, not a population.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) 70 percent of solar energy is absorbed by the atmosphere and hydrosphere, and a small percentage of this energy is absorbed by autotrophs for photosynthesis. The energy is used for activities such as growth and movement.<br>3) Plants have chlorophyll which helps them with photosynthesis. That produces the energy they need.<br>4)&nbsp;They are also used for fuelling growth and reproduction. They are also used for building proteins.<br>5) Photosynthesis turn oxygen into sugars. Cellular respiration is when oxygen and sugars are turned to water and carbon dioxide. <br>6) Producers use photosynthesis and cellular respiration while consumers undergo cellular respiration only.<br>8) Prior to reading this I would think oxygen is more important. And while I still think it is very important, plants provide so much more, aside from food also help with distributing nutrients in the soil.<br>11) Photosynthesis can only be performed during the day because it requires the heat and light from the sun, cellular respiration does not.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1) An ecological niche is like a "role". Humans are in a niche with other top predators. Another example of how organisms play a role: grass provides food for deer, but in order for grass to not diminish completely, wolves will eat the deer.<br>3) It affects everything in the ecosystem. If carnivores are gone, then the population of herbivores runs wild, and plants will die.<br>4) The energy turns into metabolic heat as the next tropic level only gets 10%.<br>7) They all live in different regions of earth, and although they have similar ecological niches they are not seen together.<br>8) If the red fox was taken out then the rabbit, mouse and squirrel population would grow, which would eventually eliminate the plants they feed on, which in turn would wipe out the entire ecosystem.</div>]]></description>
