Habits that were mentioned that I already use are eliminating distractions when studying. Putting away my phone when I'm studying is very effective because I tend to always be on my phone everyday. When I be on my phone, I'll forget everything and forget the time and usually be on it for hours before I remember what I was supposed to do. I also isolate myself in my room and lock the door so that no one can distract/talk to me while I'm studying. (85)

I think AVID should teach most study habits on all subjects, and every other subject should show study habits that work best in that class or best with that subject. AVID should show an overview of study habits so students understand what study habits work best for them. Math, English, History, etc, should show what the best study habits for their classes are. For example, your math teacher should show you what to study and how to study certain problems, and the same with your other teachers.

The study habits that I struggle with the most are eliminating distractions or avoiding procrastination. I tend to struggle with these because, being totally honest, I do not want to do my work. I unconsciously find excuses and reasons not to do my work. A way I can improve this is to find motivation to do my work and to put away my distractions. I will make sure not to study in loud spaces, not to have my phone near me, and to really focus on my work. (88)

Since the dawn of time, I have always been a heavy procrastinator. I have tried working on my problem, but no matter what I do, it never seems to help. One method that has worked slightly better than the others is putting my phone away and locking myself inside my room until I complete my work or study. It has helped me with some math work but I want to expand the subjects. I have also tried managing in and out of school.

Some of the study habits that I struggle with the most are maintaining focus. I have a hard time maintaining focus because I have a lot of distractions. I usually get distracted by my phone or music. Some steps that I can take to improve this are to isolate myself and eliminate my distractions. I can do this by putting away my phone and telling my friends and family that I won't be able to talk with them. I can also maintain my focus by going to another location where I can focus better.

In my opinion, study skills should be taught in every subject, not just AVID, including math and English. I think it is the teachers job to teach their students the best way to learn and retain the information from their class, and what is needed to pass. While I think programs like AVID could focus more and go further in depth on study skills, other basic classes should cover the basics of how to study. Other classes that could cover study skills are science, like biology or chemistry.

I think that study skills should be taught and practiced in all classes or at least the core classes because not everyone takes AVID. Everyone should know how to study no matter if you plan on going to college or not. There are some students that have not been put in classes like AVID who need to know how to study. Also, not every school offers AVID which is why it is even more important to incorporate study skills in the basic curriculum. (83 words)

If I had to teach a freshman about the study habits that I learned from the resources I would first tell them about these 3 lessons. First would be to stop multitasking and think of multitasking as task switching, it's not effective and only makes you work harder for no reason. Second would be to test yourself on the subject instead of constantly re-reading the material, studies show that testing yourself helps you do better. Finally breaking your study sessions into chunks. Instead of doing a 6 hour study session with no breaks, break it in to 3 two hour sessions. (101 words)

I think that study skills should absolutely be taught in every subject. Some teachers prefer different ways of note-taking, and if they teach it to their class, their students can learn a way that best works for them. For example, in my 8th grade history class, my teacher taught us a way to take notes that I found worked really well and I still use it to this day. While AVID is a great class and is definitely helpful, it doesn't necessarily teach you HOW to take notes.

I believe the most effective ways of studying are to take practice tests, have a good study routine, and get good sleep, food, and hydration. I think taking practice tests can help cement the information in your brain and help identify gaps in your knowledge, so you know what to study. A good study routine can help you focus on your study goals. Finally, having good sleep, nutrition, and hydration can keep you fueled and focused on all your studying.

For example, we could get some tips from like a math teacher, which basically makes it easier to make our study schedule, which is a very important study habit. I believe since we only learn study habits in AVID, some of the study ways might not match up with the specific class you want to study

I do some of these habits already. For example, I create study schedules so that I can effectively set time for studying. Setting aside this time helps my brain go into this mode of like "Okay, it's time to lock in," which makes my studying a lot more efficient. Another thing that I do is eliminate distractions. I am such a doomscroller, and it's a really bad addiction that makes me procrastinate a lot. So, while I study/do homework, I move my phone to a different room.

Studying for English, for example, is much different than studying for math. In English, it's a lot of reading/annotating a text, while in math, it's a lot of doing practice problems. If every class were to teach specific skills for its own class, I think that everyone would do a much better job and actually understand the material better. (86 words)

The three most important habits for becoming an effective student include not procrastinating, limiting distractions, and actively learning. First of all, effective students don't procrastinate their work. They complete their assignments the day that it is assigned, rather than waiting until the day it's due. Secondly, effective students are able to limit distractions like putting their phone away. Finally, effective students are always actively learning, both inside and outside the classroom. These are just three of the many important habits for becoming an effective student.

This means to study all your subjects at different times. for example math for 30 minutes then bio after that. The second one I would teach would be to study the hardest subjects first, doing this would allow for maximum efficiency because once you get done with the hardest subject the rest is easier. The last lesson would be to study in short increments, like 20 minute incriminates instead of hours at a time.(106 words)

I do think AVID kids have an advantage when it comes to learning those habits, yes many of the kids did choose the elective, not all subjects have the same study habits that are required to learn the material. Each subject is different for memorization and learning. Teachers should definitely bring up that topic or else students are forced to self teach themselves in ways that might not even be effective. (89 words)

I feel that it's essential to study and it should be available to all students. If a student doesn't know how to study like an avid student does then it might be bad for them because they might be studying completely wrong and overall it hurts their grades and also hurts their mental.

From all three resources I believe the three most important study habits for becoming an effective student are putting away distractions, having a study schedule, and practice, practice, practice. All of these habits are important because when you have your phone with you any little notifications or even that small temptation will distract you. Even people around you can be a distraction, and having a steady schedule when you study consistently will train your brain. Finally, practicing is essential, it helps your brain remember more, use practice problems to study for a coming up test and you'll see how much it truly helps.(103 words)

I'm not good about managing my time when I get home and it has caused me to fall behind in classes before. Steps that I can start to take in order to manage my time better are setting aside distractions that might take up my time, and planning out the time that I'm going to use in order to study or do schoolwork.

The study habits I struggle the most with is being a procrastinator. I always procrastinate everything and tend to do everything else but the task I'm supposed to do. Especially with homework. Every time I'm supposed to do homework, I tell myself I can just do it later but then when I open up the assignment, I start thinking to do other things. I would tell myself that one game or some time scrolling on Tiktok won't hurt, but then after I do that, I realize it's late at night and it's already past midnight. (95)

I think if you start off high school with good study habits and only improve from there, you'll succeed throughout all 4 years, and it'll benefit you a lot going into junior and senior year. If you start early with good study habits, you'll continue with those habits and improve them throughout your years, and it'll benefit you when you get to college because you already know how to study and what helps you study. You already know how long it'll take you to study certain things, so you'll know it'll be around that time in college as well.

I think teachers should teach study habits in classes where you take a lot of notes in and must study. For example, Math is heavily note based and there may be students that struggle with studying their notes. If a teacher shows all students study habits, it can improve their performance in that class. Another note based class can be science classes like biology and chemistry. Like math, some students may have issues with studying so teaching them study habits can be a huge benefit.

First, I would tell him to take proper focus notes: questions, bullet points, essential question, and summary. I would tell him how important it is to have the right study material before actually studying. Second step, I would teach the freshmen how to avoid distractions. I would tell them to tell friends and family that you will be unavailable for a specific time, so you can isolate yourself and dedicate the rest of your time to studying at the best of your ability. My third step, I would teach them how to used spaced repetition to memorize and retain information using flashcards. or quizlet.

Word Count: 123

To start improving these habits, I could work on getting into a study space that doesn't have any distractions. For example, I could probably sit outside and do my assignments, with my phone somewhere else around my house. To work on improving my procrastination habits, I could start working as soon as I get home instead of taking a small break and watching TV.

I do believe it's important to have brief discussions about study habits in classes like math, English, and science. Learning effective study techniques from teachers who are familiar with the subject can be very beneficial. There are countless methods to study effectively, and receiving guidance from teachers on how to approach their specific subject can significantly improve students' learning experiences. Though I think it should be talked about, I don´t think it should be a big topic in class. It is very important, but having a lot of time to learn the subject and the lesson itself is very important too. (101)

Having study skills can help tremendously when you are actually studying, and some students decide not to study because they don't know how to study. If we teach the students all classes on how to be successful at studying and how to do it properly, we would see the biggest grade improvements. Students would be more engaged and they would be able to go into a test, confident, knowing what they are doing.

If I had to teach a freshmen how to study smarter-not harder. I would share with them that your studying should not just be rereading the text or notes. It should consist of testing yourself and remembering the information you have learned. This will help you remember the information. Another tip I would give them is to not procrastinate then pull all nighters. Even if you procrastinate you should not pull all nighters because getting no sleep is not going to help you remember the information. The last tip I would give them is to not be distracted while you study. you should not have the TV on even if it's in the background. If you do it will cause the studying to be ineffective. Something that also goes along with that, that was mentioned in my article is the setting that you are studying in. I do have a very hard time getting rid of my screens and I usually study on my bed anyways. Studying without screens is very crucial to how your brain retains information. I need to learn to focus on my studying and not on my screens. I will try to do this by putting my phone on silent and keeping it in another room. (100 words)

Adapting study habits that already work for you so that once you transition into college you won't struggle as much. It can also help during high school for getting good grades, having good time management, and learning how to prioritize school. Goals you set for yourself for highschool and college start with how responsible you are for yourself and your academics. Failing to maintain good study habits can cause you to fall behind, procrastinate and possibly getting poor grades.

When I'm getting ready to study or complete assignments, I am able to put my phone away, and sit in an area free of anything that could potentially distract me.

I believe that the 3 most important habits for becoming an effective student are maintaining focus, taking practice tests, and planning out your goals and study sessions. Maintaining focus is very important in studying because if you don't have focus, you won't be able to retain the information that you learned. Taking practice tests is also very important to challenge yourself and quiz your brain. It will also help you find gaps in your knowledge, which will show you what you need to work on more. Lastly, planning out study sessions and your goals will help you not to be as stressed and focus on one particular thing per study session.

Out of all the articles and videos on helpful study habits, I think the top 3 most important study habits are to set a schedule, limit distractions, and understand material (not memorize it). Setting aside time each day to work on classwork not only helps your brain get into the mood and lock in more easily, but it also holds you accountable and forces you to start. After actually beginning to do work, limiting distractions helps you use your time effectively. For me personally, I know I cannot focus without a quiet environment and my phone out of reach. Finally, factoring critical thinking when working on an assignment or reviewing information helps better your understanding of the topic, as opposed to other methods like memorization. Scanning the textbook can only go so far. Using practice tests, study guides, and study groups truly benefits your knowledge.

I'd rather study for AP Euro which is easier because history is one of my favorite subjects.

Sometimes, if I have to read something to study, I'm reading the whole thing, but I was distracted the whole time, and I actually don't remember anything. Some steps I can take to do better are making sure I have no distractions around me and studying the right things.

Better study habits would definitely help you junior or senior year. It would definitely also help benefit you and prepare yourself for college. Habits that become a daily basis can make your studying and retain information more easy rather than cramming everything in one day. Using methods like studying for 25 minutes and taking breaks will help you remember important information better than struggling to memorize everything at one time. There are many other simple habits like eliminating distractions can be very effective when studying. (85)

It is important for me to be engaged while I am studying, so I can retain the information. Removing distractions such as phones, noises, or even people help me focus so much more. Another habit that I use regularly is scheduling. I schedule when I should study because it makes it so much easier to complete it. I notice when I do not schedule my study time, I am more likely to procrastinate and never do it. This is why I always try to set aside a specific time of the week dedicated to reviewing class work and notes. (123 words)

Out of all three resources, the 3 study habits that I find the most beneficial are eliminating distractions, having a study goal, and getting enough sleep. Eliminating distractions is essential when studying because it´s easy to get sidetracked and lose progress on your work when you have distractions around you. Having a study goal is also important, as it gives you motivation to reach it during your study sessions. Lastly, I think getting enough sleep significantly affects your ability to focus and remember what you have been studying. (88)

I think teachers should spend time teaching their students how to study because they are so critical of tests and quizzes. I feel this is very important because they get on you when you don't score high on the test, but how do they expect this if they don't tell us what or how to study their 500 different topics that will be on their impossible test. I think if they gave us a practice test or quiz, scores would go up because now we know what's on the test, just different numbers or different formatting. But teachers expect us to do everything by ourselves and just nail the tests 100% because they told us the answer 1 time. (119 words)

I believe that study habits should be taught in English because it's a four year course and each year could help cover study habits and other skills AVID teaches. This can be helpful to non AVID students with learning how to manage time and how to avoid procrastination. It can be set as a small set of lessons given at the end of the first and second semester and can have no work or not count as a grade to let the students work on finals projects and study for finals. These lessons will be different depending on what grade you're in.

I do three or so assignments, a short break, and then repeat. I learned this method from my sister before I learned it in AVID, and so far it's been super helpful and successful. I've gotten caught up on my AVID and Math assignments like this, even though I get super distracted easily so I've still had a bit of a struggle. I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but also having someone to hold you accountable for studying also helps!

To start improving this, I can set realistic goals as to what I will accomplish in each study session. If I tell myself I will get caught up on a week's worth of work in one night, I know this is unrealistic and it won't get done. Similarly, I can also limit distractions which will help me not make excuses to not complete my work.

But, if there is extra time, a test coming up or finals coming up I think that it would really help students. Most students don't know where to start when they have to study so having a teacher guide them can help a lot. I think that students would get better grades and understand/retain the material more.

I believe they already have enough on their plate that they don't feel like doing anything extra. I wish they did teach study habits because they would benefit everyone, including me. In 7th grade, my math teacher impacted alot of the things I do, including helping me realize I should have my notes available or out before anything. I also always test myself. This habit really helps me alot, having to force myself to understand till I get it right and make myself understand why it's right or why it's wrong. I chose time management because as a student being organized and smart about what you use your time on is key, spacing out your study sessions into smaller easier groups limits stress and provides a more effective way to go over the topic. Next, teaching peers. If you are able to teach your peers the material it opens a door to mastering the material and organizing it into an understanding for you and others.Lastly being present in your notes. If your not in class and you dont participate by taking notes. You have nothing to study off of, make the note easier for you and not what the teacher writes. (138 words)

I think other subjects shouldn't prioritize it, but at the end of the lesson, they should talk about how to properly study for that subject or lesson. Because I dont study the same way I study for math, for english. I think this would be helpful for students and teachers to help them to be able to retain information easily. I also think this will help students find out what works for them and what doesnt. A lot of the times, students dont know how to help themselves and often end up studying wrong, or in a way that wont help them in their subject. ( 124 words)

These study habits can help with college readiness because by finding effective study habits that work for me now can set me up for success in college. (80)

Study habits can better support your goals for junior and senior year by practicing effective ways to retain and remember information, especially for upcoming tests and quizzes. When preparing for college, knowing how to study in ways that best work for you is super important. In college, you are independent, and you aren´t going to have as many resources as you do now. Knowing good habits to improve your college readiness and time management beforehand will help you out in many ways in the future. (85)

If I could teach a freshmen how to study the first step would be to eliminate distractions. Eliminating distractions is so important because their the main factor to not study effectively. The next lesson would be to study with a goal. You should have your goal before you start studying because as your studying it's a reminder of what you are looking for and what you are trying to accomplish. The last lesson would be find someone who can keep you accountable. This should be someone that won't distract you but actually helps you when your stuck and keeps you focused.

This is because I have a harder time focusing on a single subject for a long time without a break. Taking breaks would not help as much because when I take a break I get off topic and I end up playing video games for hours. Having supervision telling me when to take a break would help as I would get a break and also be able to finish any work.

Despite what many teachers claim, I think it is very important for studying skills for each subject to be taught in school. In almost every class, tests make up the bulk of how you are graded. For good test takers and naturally quick learning students, tests can be easy. But for others (the majority), tests are what they perform worst and need more time to review their understanding. Many people don't know how to study, so the main thing they are graded upon is their worst. Teaching students studying skills wouldn't just bump up their grades; it would help them understand the material and maybe even apply that information in real life.

Still, when the time of the test comes, and right as soon as you see your paper, you just can't remember anymore. Another thing I would not recommend is not to stay up and study because the answer is obvious by the time of the test, you will be so tired and not be able to take the test. Something I would recommend is to break your studying into sections and start a couple of days in advance.

If I had to teach a freshman how to study smarter, not harder, I would tell him or her to not only review and rewrite notes. There are many more effective ways to study efficiently, such as taking practice tests, watching videos, and working through practice problems. Another lesson that I would tell the freshmen is to plan out their assignments and study sessions. This is very important because you need to use your time efficiently to complete all your assignments on time without having to rush. Lastly, I would tell the freshman to do his or her best to maintain focus. Focus is very important for study sessions, and if you lose focus, you will end up wasting time.

I tell myself that I will put my phone down and focus for thirty minutes to an hour, when in reality I can't not check it every ten minutes. I try very hard to limit the distractions around me, but I do a very poor job at it. I continue to procrastinate with almost every assignment, waiting until the last second to turn it in and get it done. I can start improving these skills by doing slow steps to reach my big goal, such as putting my phone in another room while doing an assignment, and working on putting my phone in another room during a study period.

It would be helpful if each subject would teach kids how to study for their subject because some classes have different requirements. We have each class tell us "how to be successful in their class" but they should take some time in the beginning on the year when classes are still balancing to go into detail on how you can study for their class. It's good that AVID does teach us these skills but it should be more accessible so you don't have to take a class for these tips. (Word count: 103)

Taking tests on what you learnt is so much better than constantly re-reading whatever material you are doing.

There were many strategies in Dr. Huberman's video that I learned about. I learned that it is wise to study independently and then teach your peers about your findings. By helping those struggling, you further demonstrate your understanding of the material. Another thing I learned is that it is better to read the material once, then test yourself on it, versus reading the textbook repeatedly. One final thing I learned was to spread your studying over multiple study sessions. It is better to do 3 1-hour sessions instead of one long 3-hour session. (93 words)

Taking breaks in between assignments or in the middle of studying can greatly improve the effectiveness of the study session. I always get so lazy and lack a lot of motivation to actually do what I say. Some steps I could take to get these habits down is just reminding myself of the outcome of being responsible by getting my work done and studying to help me understand the assignment or test more. The determination is also just reminding myself. (80 words)

You can start to have better study habits once you get into your junior year by starting to keep track of time. Also when you start early with your study habits, the more you will get used to it and the easier it will get. Learning how to study will be so much more helpful once you get into your college years.(82 words)

After reading all three resources these are my top 3 most important habits for becoming an effective student. The first study habit I think is important is don't attempt to cram all your studying into one session. This is important because you need to give your brain a break every time you study to help you brain process everything you just learned. The next study habit I think is important is make sure you're not distracted when your studying because you won't remember what you're studying if you have distractions around you. The last important study habit is never procrastinate because it is good to cram all of your assignments in one day.

I usually say I'll do my work later then end up doing it the day before its due. I stress myself out and don't do as well as if I would've taken my time and effort. When I have my phone out I consistently have that urge to use it then up up being of it for a long time. To improve that I could find motivation to do my work and work in a quiet place.

I struggle with procrastination and avoiding distractions. I always find a way to give an excuse about why I dont want to do my work and why it is justified. This is not a good habit for me . I also get distracted very easily whether that's by my phone, friends, movies, or food, ect ect. I struggle with always thinking I have more time than I really do, this causes me to hold off on an assignment and I end up just either one, not getting it done, not getting it done in time, or just cramming everything in , in a short period of time. I can help myself by forcing to get things done, and limiting my distractions by avoiding my phone and going with my friends to benefit my future.

If I had to teach a freshman how to study smarter, not harder, I would teach them first about eliminating their distractions. I know that everyone loves their phones, but at some point, we have to leave them behind for the sake of our GPAs. The second thing that I would teach them is that they need to either use practice problems or practice tests. These help me so much when I don't understand a certain topic or if I just need to quiz myself on where I was. I can't stress enough how helpful these are. Lastly, I would teach them how to organize a nice study space. Study spaces are so crucial to how well your studying can go. For example, if you study in your room and your room is so messy, then you are going to be surrounded by distractions, but if your room is clean and you are studying at a desk, that will help with the type of your studying.

I believe that teachers teaching study habits during class time would be good but, I don't think they should do it often. I think they should only teach once a test or something important is coming up to where the student would have to study. The teacher should seperately take time to teach study habits and learning strategies specifically. Some classes already feel rushed and are difficult as is so if they would have to fit in study habits on top of that, it wouldn't benefit anyone. Block days could be a day where every teacher could teach learning strategies and study habits to their class.

Studying in intervals and getting a good amount of sleep also helps me stay focused on my work, as it gives my brain a little bit of a break. I think eliminating distractions is a big thing, and it's what is holding a lot of students back from getting good grades. Having a good study schedule is also important since once you fall into that routine, it's hard to break it and it truly does make you more successful. The last thing, not procrastinating, is one of the most difficult things but it is also the barrier that stops people from not being successful. If you stop procrastinating, then you'll do great.

Yes, I absolutely think that teachers should spend class time teaching study habits and learning strategies. Most students aren't educated in correct and effective ways of study, so they typically try and study the night before, causing them to be tired the day of the test. If the students were taught in class the most effective ways of study, I think that many students would be able to understand the material at a higher level. Also, students could learn what works best for them when it comes to studying, which can help them in their future college education.

If I had to teach a freshman on how to study smarter and not harder, I would use these 3 lessons. The first big one is eliminating distractions. Phones are something I feel like freshman would always do everyday and they can't live without it. Taking away their phone would make a big difference when studying because you don't get distracted watching social media and actually pay attention to your assignments/notes. Second is testing yourself. Testing yourself lets you retain information way more effectively and tests your knowledge of what you already know and what to improve on. Last one is scheduling a time of when to study because if any time throughout the day you have the most energy, that's when you should study. (126)

This corresponds with another question I answered, but yes I think that teachers should take time to teach study habits because it is important that everyone knows how to study no matter what classes you take or where you take them, you should learn how to study. The students can not study if the teachers do not teach them so it is the teachers job to make sure they know how to do that. Including study habits and tips benefit everyone. I normally don't have a problem with distractions, but every now and then I take a break from homework or studying which I normally do, but if I go on my phone, TV, or video games I notice a lot of time goes by and I don't notice it until it's too late. For example, when I watch a TV show for a break, multiple episodes pass by and I don't notice until I checked the time at random times. I can improve this by not watching TV or I using any type of electronic devices during my break to prevent wasting time.

Word Count: 113

I tend to struggle with these because I never want to do my work. I unconsciously find excuses and reasons not to do my work. A way I can improve this is to find motivation to do my work and to put away my distractions. I will make sure not to study in loud spaces, not to have my phone near me, and to really focus on my work. (88)

Based on my experience in high school so far, I think the main tips I would recommend to freshmen regarding studying are not to procrastinate, take neat notes, and ask for help when required. My freshman year I procrastinated way too much which hindered my understanding of some topics because by the time I was doing them my class was moving on to new topics. Another thing I noticed my freshman year was organization and how it correlated to better understanding of material. Lastly, I learned to ask for help when I need it so I practice good habits. If I don't understand how to do an assignment and do it wrong, I won't be doing the assignment right or really understand it.

I think that study skills should definitely be taught in every class. This is especially true for classes that are heavily note based, like math or sciences. I think that if a curriculum and your success in a class is dependent on the notes that you take, then the teacher should make an effort to teach you the tools to help you be successful. Not only can the teacher teach you how to take good notes, they can also teach you how to effectively study your notes in order to best retain the information. This is super important to learn in highschool so that you can be set up for future success and that's why I think teachers should set aside time to teach their students study strategies.

If I were to teach a freshman how to study smarter and not harder, the three lessons from the sources I would share first would be mastering prioritization and time management, eliminating distractions, and take practice tests. Mastering prioritization and time management is one of the biggest study habits because it can really helped reduce stress, and it teaches the freshman the positives of doing work before the last day they can submit it. Eliminating distractions is another good study habits because when your phone is right next to you during studying, you tend to not be as focused as you try to be, and I know this is a problem that many students still struggle with. Lastly, taking practice tests is a good tool for studying because it can help you understand the material more than you think, filling in any gaps in your studying.

I think learning how to study in one program is more beneficial then learning in all the classes. If you learn how to study in one class, you can apply them to every class and subject you can ever have. You already have enough things to study and complete in other subjects. If you just know how to study from one class, you can use what you learned everywhere. You can always resort back to all the things you learned if you forget. (83 words)

If I had to teach a freshman about three study habits, I would choose eliminate distractions, take practice tests, and organize a conductive study space. All of these tactics correspond with each other quite well. Eliminating distractions is something you have to learn how to do, but once you have the right amount of self control, it is very beneficial to learning new material. Taking practice tests help you mentally prepare for the exam you have to take. If you are not prepared, you will freak out and freeze. That will just result in a bad grade and self shame. The last one is Having a conductive study space. Having a study space that is specifically designated to studying helps you remember what you are trying to learn. (128 words)

As you become an upperclassman, it is important to know how to learn and study. It is also important that you know how you study best so you can apply those strategies in high school and master them by college. Time management is very important also because once you get to college, you are alone and there is no one to hold you accountable but yourself. (91 words)

I think that study habits can really help set up your future self for success. If you build good study habits, your learning can really skyrocket as you can learn things more effectively and more reliably. If you can develop these skills now as a sophomore, it is that much easier to do as a junior and senior, and you become a machine. This will continue well into college, and it will continue to help you. Overall better study habits you learn now can help you later in high school, and in college.

Studying independently for multiple short sessions is the most beneficial because you will retain information a lot better than doing long study sessions without any breaks in between them. Teaching others improves your learning because you are testing what you know and if you know it well enough to explain it to others effectively. I usually put my phone on whenever I do work as well as pick a quiet spot in my house. Over the years, I've found that one of the main things that keeps me from staying focused and doing work is actually background noise. Whenever my mom was cooking or my dad was watching sports I could never concentrate. Since then, I have adjusted and never have a TV going on in the background or loud music.

First off managing priorities will help me organize what work I need to get done as soon as possible and which work I can postpone for the next day. Secondly, limiting distractions could help me isolate myself from electronics, family, and friends to optimize a high level of focus and retention while I am studying or doing homework. Lastly, separating study sessions could help me study at specific times throughout my day so I am not worn out after a long study session. Those are the study habits that I believe will significantly impact me as a senior and junior.

Word Count: 128

The three most important habits in my opinion are being consistent when studying. Be consistent when studying because than it becomes a habit. Your mind than knows that this is the time you should study and it will become like a routine. The second most important habits is setting a goal before you study. Simple studying without direction is not as effective. You need to know exactly what you need to accomplish before you start. The last is review your notes. Review your notes because then you will better retain that information. Reviewing also allows you to remember what your learning about before staring an assignment. It's better so you don't begin the assignment and get confused because you don't remember.

If I had to teach a freshman three lessons about studying smarter and not harder, I would start with teaching them about eliminating distractions. Eliminating distractions is one of the most useful study tools. Not only are you not bothered by notifications or background noise, but it makes it so much easier to focus on the task that you are working on. The second thing that I would teach them about is planning when they're going to study. By planning when they're going to study, it's going to make it so much easier for them to stick with their studying, Especially if they study at the same time everyday, which will help their brain to associate that time with being productive and doing work. The third and final thing that I would teach them about would be spaced repetition. Spaced repetition is an incredibly useful tool, especially for studying. By exposing your brain to the same information over again across the span of a longer time frame, your brain will memorize the information way better than if you were cramming for a test.

One of the habits mentioned that I already practice regularly and that has helped me succeed is eliminating my distractions. By eliminating distractions like my phone, the TV, or any other screens that might be a distraction, it has made studying and doing work so much easier. When I don't have any distraction out or around it enables me to focus way more on the taste at hand rather than the notifications that are popping up on my phone or what's happening on the show playing.

Better study habits help support my goals for junior and senior years. For example, making a study plan or a schedule will help me for all 4 years during high school because it will make me more organized and will make me more efficient. The study habits will also help me discover what works for me the most, and this will help me because I can choose a study habit that will work for me. I can use these study habits to help support my goals for junior and senior year by using them to get good grades and take in information.

Some habits that were mentioned that I already do are isolating myself and creating goals per study session. I have been working on isolating myself before because I know I get easily distracted and I lose focus. I have tried to isolate myself by putting away my phone and studying in a location where there are limited distractions. I have created goals for study sessions before. This helped me focus on one particular thing, so I can take in more information.

I think it is a great idea to allow teachers to teach study habits to students. This is very important because students need guidance to success. A lot of students will not go out of their way to research the correct way to study, so if a teacher is showing them useful ways to study it can be really beneficial to the students. I think this because I can see the difference between the students in the avid program and the students who are not. Usually the students in avid who have the knowledge of study habits and work ethic are more successful.

I believe that the most effective skills are time management, incorporating a planner, and avoiding procrastination are crucial for success. When you plan your time well, you know what to do when, which makes everything easier. A planner helps your keep track of your tasks and informs you when you have important due dates. Avoiding Procrastination is very hard but if you stop putting things off, you get more done and feel less stressed. Overall, these habits help you stay organized, focused, and on top of your game.

I think that study skills should be taught in every subject, not just in the avid program. Study skills like time management and note taking help in all classes weather its math, English, or any other class. Plus, not everyone is in these special programs like avid. Avid taught me so much about study skills and I think that everyone should be able to learn about them. If teachers show you how to use these skills in each subject, it will be so beneficial and will help you learn better. Overall, I really think teachers should start to incorporate study skills in their classes.(104)

If I had to recommend how to study smarter not harder to a freshman I would share time management, using a planner, and taking good notes. These three study habits are so important to succeeding in high school. Time management is so beneficial because it helps you get more done, reduce stress, and improve your productivity. when you manage your time well you can prioritize tasks, meet the deadlines, and achieve your goals. Using a planner is important to get your assignments planned out with how much time your need to work of each task. lastly, taking good notes is so important. You can use the notes you take to study and understand the lesson gone over in class. If you don't understand it your notes will help you understand it.(131)

The study habit that I already practice regularly is using a planner/addenda. I am very thankful for avid because they make us use agendas. I write down all of the assignments that I need to complete so I remember everything I need to get done all home. I used to always forget when I had upcoming things but the agenda helps me stay on track and helps me meet my deadlines. Overall, I definitely recommend using an agenda to stay organized.(82)
