An earthquake is a natural disaster that happens when the ground shakes suddenly. It can destroy buildings, roads, and bridges in a few seconds. Many people may get injured or lose their homes. Earthquakes cannot be stopped, but we can be ready for them. People should know safe places in their homes, like under a strong table or near a wall. After an earthquake, we should stay calm and help others. Scientists also work hard to build stronger buildings to protect people. If everyone is careful and prepared, fewer lives will be lost.
