As most of us are just a few short months away from entering the real world we are faced with some exciting yet also scary truths. Where will be move to, where will we work, how will we provide for ourselves and what is our calling. In the novel Why Work we are reminded that our work, whichever career path it is that we decide to take we don’t work to live but that we should live to work.

In the short novel of The Undeclared Major we learn of a young man by the name of Walter who has struggled to find his calling. As he has recently turned 21 he thinks he has found the major in which he could make a career out of, yet he doesn’t know for sure what that entails. We suspect that he is a bit ashamed of majoring in English but he feels as if this is something that gives him joy.

If we choose to not do our work to the best of our ability, then who knows what type of negative impact that could have on others. We should live to work and work to serve others and most importantly God.

God created all between Heaven and Earth in six days and let the seventh day to be for a day of putting down the tools used the other six days. “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work” (Genesis 2:2).

“The Sabbath is not for the sake of the weekdays; the weekdays are for the sake of Sabbath. It is not an interlude but the climax of living” (Heschel, 217). We shouldn’t consume ourselves with obsession over the weekends, we should look forward to work and then be relieved of our tiredness at the week’s end. After all work is a blessing to be able to do, God commended us to be rulers and workers of his vast creation.

Going through college we often times come to blocks in the road, we are faced with trails or temptations and we can choose to resist and fight them or succumb to them. Albert testifies in the novel I resolve to become a jungle doctor, he states how motivated he was to not give up on his studies so that one day he would be able to provide for these unhappy people in Africa, as a doctor.

Says we neglect certain commitments. This connects to Annie Dillard’s one necessity…"What if you have two?". This applies to many of our lives as students because we often have more than one commitment. Some students have a job and school, some have athletics and school, and often times ones of them is neglected because the other has to be their main focus at a given time. Often when we have conflicting commitments Martha Nussbaum says we go for the one that produces the greatest goodness. Therefore if spending more time on school, than in athletics creates better grades, that's where we spend more of our focus.

That has since changed and I am now an ASL Interpreting major and could now never imagine myself as anything else. There are times where you will feel like your life is going many different directions, but you’re always pointing into a certain direction (Your calling). You may never use your major in your life because God may give you a different calling. Vincent Hardy also tells us “When you see an injustice always act on it".

Stanton discusses the idea of individuals being treated equally. She focuses mainly on the idea that women and men should be treated equally. My favorite part of "Solitude of the Self" was the idea that everyone comes into the world alone and leaves the world alone. This address given by Stanton really effects me because I am a woman.

From 4 years old to 22, the age where the vast majority of us are now in our last year of school. For more than 15 years now our lives have revolved around education, Monday through Friday, with the same routine. Not all people get to go on to college, we however; were the blessed few who have gotten to experience a higher education.

"For where your treasure is , there your heart will be also"

Life is intentional. Where we put our most effort and focus our time towards is what ultimately helps create the intentionality of our heart and mind. This verse puts emphasis on how we sometimes neglect to put focus on our relationship with Jesus. If we just put more attention to strengnthening our faith, over time it'll become more intentional, automatic, and be the core of our hearts.

The topics of discussion throughout the course, Senior Year Experience, raises many personally reflective questions, as listed in the syllabus.
- Are some lives more meaningful than others?
-What's the connection between work and identity?
-Do my natural talents impose special obligations on the kind of life I lead?
-To whom should I listen?
-Can I control what I'm becoming?
These questions lead to the philosophy behind finding a meaning in your life. What if you go your entire life without feeling some sort of worth? It is important to create a life centered around your passions, your faith, your ambitions, and what you want to achieve in this life. You only get to experience life here on earth once, so better make it count, right? We are all created equally perfect in the image of God, yet we all face such different struggles during our existence on earth. Collectively as a group, we find it important to find pride in yourself, be humble, and achieve greatness by being a good person, glorifying God, and reaching that feeling like "mama I made it". No life is more meaningful than the other, you can control the outcome of your life if you put trust in your faith, with an open heart and an open mind. You will lead by example, and conclusively live out a life that matters.

Myself and every other woman have been spoken for, for too long and deserve our own voice. Stanton says no individual is the same and that is why we can't be represented by anyone but ourselves. Therefore we all should have our own voice.
