The first panel represents the very small amount of plastic in the oceans, the bottle represents the plastic, and the blue ball representing the oceans. the second panel represents the rising threat of plastic, but it's not at a critical level yet. The third shows the modern situation, where plastic is still on the rise and threatening the oceans more than before. The fourth represents a possible future where we can protect the oceans(shown by the wall) from plastic. A green background is around the oceans, representing health and prosperity, and a grey one surrounds the bottle, showing an enroaching "evil". Since we can't eleminate all plastic, there is a tiny sliver of grey on the protecting wall.

Plastic can clog rivers, harm wildlife and get into our drinking water. Plastic is extremely harmful to the planet and by doing things to reduce plastic we can fix these issues. Some more things you can do to reduce plastic are: Don’t use single use water bottles or bags, buy things made out of recycled materials and bring your own reusable bags when going to the grocery store. The image I created was a seal with a shield, in an ocean, with plastic in the water in front of the seal.

The purpose of that image is to emphasize the point that seals need protection from plastic.

It also to bring awareness to plastic harming not only seals but the other animals that are in that same ocean, and are in the water that has plastic in it.

The image relates to the theme "Planet vs Plastics" becauses it involves plastic, and the animals that have their ecosystems in that same water, bringing potential danger to them.

It is important, and needs to be brought to peoples awareness because the plastic is not only harming the water, making it contain microplastics and such, but also endangers the seals.

The seals being endangered are important because it can harm the food chain in the ocean in many ways.

One way is that the population of a predator of the seals decline due to less seals, harming the food chain even more.

My project shows a 3D model of a plastic fish, that represents the usage of single use plastics that are thrown out into the ecosystem (ocean) every year. Plastic pollution has become a major correlation due from the amount of plastic that is made every year and how much is thrown away. Every year “millions of animals are killed by plastics, whether it be from land animals to marine animals.” There are many ways that the animals are affected from plastic death, most of it is due from entanglement from plastic bags and or strangled from other plastics which can cause sometimes timely or instant death, causing suffering to the animal. Single use plastics are unnecessary, and we can find ways to reuse or recycle these plastics; even, using plastics that only that will last more than perhaps 20 years in the long run.
