Beach safety

I have chosen to focus on beach safety because I believe this is the area I need to concentrate on the most, as I often visit the beach with my friends and sometimes engage in activities that are not safe.

The 5 most critical dangers at the beach are rips, marine life, big waves, alcohol and drugs, and severe weather conditions, which can cause poor water conditions, such as large crashing waves.

The most critical danger from the list above would most probably be rips. To avoid a rip, you should look out for where in the shoreline the water is being pulled back, creating a sucking loop that drags you deeper into the ocean. An easy way to find these is to look for where the waves aren't crashing. If you are in a rip, you should remain calm, swim parallel to the shore to get out of the rip and then swim back to the shore.

Bike/Scooter

I chose this road awareness category becuase I feel like it relates to me the most, since I ride bikes a lot, and I feel like this is my main source of transport around the place if my parents aren't driving me

3 important safety rules to follow when riding bikes or scooters are to wear a helmet, ride on the footpath or the designated bike lane which has been made for you, and always have lights on your bike if you are riding at night, so you can be seen by cars to avoid getting hit.

A strtergy that my future self would teach my current self is to never ride your bike on the road, always use a footpath, I feel like even if you are riding on a designated bike lane it is still very dangerous becuase if you loose control of your bike you could accidently fall onto the road and also to always wear a helmet.

Mount Lofty Hike

This hike is located in the South Australian hills and is one of the most prestigious and enjoyable hikes in Adelaide. It starts at Waterfall Gulley and goes all the way up to Mount Lofty Summit.

The hike is 7.5 km return and takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete the whole thing and end up back at your starting point

Some special considerations you need for this hike is to look out for wildlife such as snakes and eat some food for energy as there is alot of stairs going uphill. you will need to pack water, snacks, suncream, insect repleland, a smart phone, runnign shoes.

I chose this hike becuase I have done it before and I loved it as for now it is one of my favourite hikes since it is not too hard and not too easy.

Unsupervised House Party

If I am hosting a house party without any parental supervision and one of my friends posts it on social media, resulting in my party getting overcrowded, this is what I would do. I would first start by getting the attention of a parent or guardian and calling them to the venue, then I would close my house down and ask everyone who was uninvited. If there is supplied alcohol at that party, I would put the alcohol away from the uninvited guests so they can't take any. Potential dangers of this would be things such as people getting overexcited and too hyped up, resulting in breaking things in your house; also, bad people could come, and this would be a threat to people's lives. If the safety of the people's lives is in danger, we would call the cops.

Responsibility and Vunrability

In class, we watched a movie called Promising Young Woman, which provided an overview of consent and how vulnerability works in real-life scenarios, emphasising the need for greater responsibility.

How does the film address the issue of consent and the importance of obtaining clear and enthusiastic consent in intimate situations?

This film shows a lady who is cating drunk and shows her to be in a scenario where she is more vulnerable than the man. The man doesn't get any consent and still decides to have a sexual interaction with her. This is classified as rape and is against the law; people can get sent to jail for doing this.

How does the film challenge societal attitudes towards victim-blaming and the way survivors of sexual assault are shown in the media as ‘having done something to deserve it’?

No one ever deserves to be sexually assaulted or "raped" because this is a very unethical thing to do. Even if they have done something terribly wrong, they do not deserve this. This film illustrates this by portraying the vulnerability the lady exhibits in the scenario against the man.

Discuss the role of alcohol and intoxication in the film's narrative, and how it intersects with discussions of consent and vulnerability.

Alcohol and drugs heavily imply the context of vulnerability and responsibility becuase these substances can make you not think straight and also cause you to say and do things that you do not mean. Consent can never be given when someone is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
