I do not identify with country music. The people who make country music come from a different place and background than I do. Country music does not speak about something that my culture deals with and speaks on everyday, race. My family never played country music as I was growing up so I never felt accustomed to listening to it. The music industry in country music has excluded blacks for decades, so black people never really had any influence from the genre. This makes a generalization that black people do not like country music, but I can only speak for myself. I don't know any country artists that makes music that's relatable. For me, it has no struggle that I can relate to on as far as culture goes. I find it boring, dry, and repetitive. Lyrically, most of the genre talks about God, war and love. Which is not what I want to listen to all the time.

Country artist treats race as if it is not a problem and does not exist. But it does especially in the south. The artists are afraid to speak on current issues but they can write a song over what happened forty years ago and how it changed the nation. Country music likes to tell the short and clean version of this nation, but it won't talk about the many innocent people getting killed by cops. It didn’t mention to show the blacks in America but showed all other nationalities in the world as if there is peace and everythings humble when it clearly not. African communities still face hunger and war issues, the Chinese communities face the issue of overpopulation, etc.

I did not change my mind completely when it comes to country music. I still stand by what I say about how the Artis in this genre does not take up for what is going on when it come to inequality of treatment towards other race and cultures. But as far as the genre on musical aspect I can now tolerate it. The music is not as bad as I have pictured it in the past. My dislike for country music is so string because of what it stands for, not because of the music.
