Determination was shown in both of the two characters but it wasn't very successful in both of them. Demosthenes was very determined and he managed to achieve his goals. He worked hard and took things slow, he made sure that not only was he practicing but made sure that he was practicing the right way. Icarus was determined but he didn't take his time to learn and he was reckless. He rushed into things thus causing him to fall. So even though he was determined, he still failed.

For Demosthenes, his determination led him to his goal. Instead of giving up on his dreams like many other people would have, he did almost everything he could to push him towards his goal. For example, he built himself an underground room so he could

Determination helped them but led to tradgety. Demothenes ended up going from poor and losing his father to a wealthy lawyer all because he was determined to be one. But Icarus didn't listen in that story, he didn't listen to his father so he went to close to the sun, the wax melted and he fell into the ocean and died. That was a tradgety.

Determination was a very big role in both of these stories. In "Demosthenes" by John Haaren, the main character Demosthenes did use determination to reach his goal. For example, he shaved half his head so he would be embarresed to leave his home. Therefore, he stayed home and worked on becoming better non-stop. Also, in the story about Icarus, Icarus showed determination but not to help him get through to his goals. His goals were set and reached by his dad. His determination for example was when he was determined to reach high. He reached high while flying and his feathers were burned by the sun. His dad told him not to but he was determined to reach the sun. He then reached the level and he fell, then drowned so he died. Therefore, one story showed determination to reach goals and one didn't.

First, Demosthenes was determined to become a speaker and faced many obstacles, but he was patient and overcame his obstacles one by one without making mistakes out of eagerness.
