In a multigenre project, different aspects of an overall theme are presented through different options and types of media. In the tragedy Romeo and Juliet, two star-crossed lovers from rival families find each other and pursue each other in acts of impulsivity. Since both Romeo and Juliet are young teens, their brains are not fully developed. Because of this, they make various dangerous and bad decisions throughout the play. The subgenres of this project not only reflect the impulsivity of the two teens but also how it affected their families and the people around them. Through various aspects of media, I hope to convey the message that one of the themes in Romeo and Juliet is the folly of youth

As we all know, teens can be angsty and rebellious. Through this teen rock playlist, teens can have something angry to listen to especially when they're mad at their parents. Because teens are so impulsive, they often get in trouble with their parents which causes them to be in an angry state. Juliet would probably listen to this after getting into a fight with Capulet about marrying Paris as it isn't something she wants to do at all. A specific lyric in the song Awkward Girl is "I've got my own thing going, so if everyone was gone, I've got me, it's just me. "I thought this connected well as it shows that teens often want to be by themselves and stay independent from their demanding parents. A direct quote from the play is, " What if it is a poison which the friar Subtly hath ministered to have me dead Because he married me before Romeo," ( Rom. 4.2.25-28) In this quote we see Juliet's anxiety and worry in the Friar, and she might want to listen to some of this playlist so she can be angry and remember why she chose to fake her death and drink the potion

Many teens have different priorities and I think they are reflected well in Juliet's to-do list. It includes chores that teens often don't do or rebel against, and impulsive things like parties or sneaking out which lots of teens do as well. The side notes next to each chore also reflect how teens feel about things, like an ugh next to doing laundry or a yay by sneaking out. " Wife go you to her ere you go to bed; Acquaint her here of my son Paris' love And bid her on Wednesday," ( Rom. 3.2.15-17) These lines show something a parent may say that would anger a teen and make them upset: this shows an upset Juliet as she didn't want to marry Paris, but Romeo. Juliet would add a sad face next to this on her list because it's something she doesn't want too do.

Teens often find themselves making irresponsible decisions, in the following texts, we see how teens often plan to do bad things that affect their future greatly. Juliet faking her death to be with Romeo was not only irresponsible but dangerous as she just trusted the Friar to give her dangerous potions. When in our youth we see things through a different, less mature lens than our elders. And even modern technology makes it much easier for teens to make plans without their parents knowing. If phones existed during the time of the play, Romeo and Juliet would be texting each other all the time about making plans to see each other. A direct quote from the text explains," And trust me love, in my eye so do you. Dry sorrow drinks our blood. Adieu! Adieu!"(Rom. 3.5.58-59) This quote shows how Romeo wants Juliet to trust him, even though he is far from trustworthy, but Juliet follows him anyway because she is so caught up in love and isn't mature enough to understand it is wrong.

I chose a bumper sticker that says " YOLO" as I feel many teens live by this quote as they think that things don't matter because " you only live once". We see this behavior various times throughout the play as both Romeo and Juliet make decisions that affect everything and everyone else in their lives. In the text we see this when both Romeo and Juliet do not tell anyone about their relationship, causing a heartbreak for Paris and confusion for the families. It also creates an almost drawl between Paris and Romeo as there is extreme confusion as to why Romeo was at the Capulet tombs. A direct quote of this scenario is," This is that banished haughty Montague that murdered my love's cousin-with which grief."( Rom. 5.1.49-50) This quote of Paris shows his confusion about Romeo's presence.

I chose this therapist's note to represent the folly of youth because the therapist is explaining how easily Romeo falls in love. Teens are not only irresponsible with their actions but also with their emotions. Romeo has shown himself very irresponsible of his emotions at various times, a direct quote of this," Hath washed thy sallow cheeks for Rosaline! How much salt water thrown away in waste."( Rom. 2.3.70-71) This quote from the Friar reflects how Romeo moved on so fast from Rosaline, even though weeks ago he claimed that he loved her. Lots of teens in today's society seem to just " move on" and they say they truly love something but they can leave it behind so fast.
