Teddy Roosevelt changed the way the world looked at America by his impact with the military. Teddy’s influence with the military was that he formed a group called the rough riders. They were formed in 1898 that stormed into battle outside Santiago, Cuba. With his help the United States won this war and began to have global power over everyone else. He was named the hero of the war by the way he controlled his group of men.

An way of Teddy using military force is that he threatened the coal mine owners to listen to the workers complaints or else he will send the federal troops in to take control and have them ran by federal employees. The mine owners finally listened to him and people stayed there. Which also plays into the economy staying stable.

He was also thought of as the naval strategist. Teddy was known for the control of the military, navy, and diplomatic forces. For many years his goal was to turn the navy into a great instrument to make the US a great force.

The President and his administration team earned the name of "Trustbusters". This is because of the act that Roosevelt enforces which is called the Sherman Antitrust act. Which was put in place to break up monopolies. The government used this act to invalidate arrangements with companies that had set prices on products.

The Supreme court in 1904 ruled that the Northern Securities Company which was a big time railroad company was found as being an illegal trust. A year later the court found that other big time companies were as well illegal trusts. This being said Roosevelt still did not want to shut down all big companies because he knew that big businesses will be more efficient than smaller ones.

Teddy believed that the bad companies were the ones that bullied smaller companies or cheated the consumers. So Roosevelt supported powerful corporations as long as they did business fairly, which resulted in mix emotions among the civilization.

Consumerism

Teddy Roosevelt was a big advocator of consumerism. In 1906 a novel named the Jungle was published which explained the unhealthy, filthy conditions of the meatpacking industry. With that novel being released it angered him and he started to tighten up the rules in the country. He urged the Congress to pass the Meat Inspection Act that exact year. It allowed federal agents to inspect any meat sold across state lines and required inspection of meat plants.

Another act that was passed because of Roosevelt’s determination to better consumerism is the Pure Food and Drug Act. This banned interstate shipment of impure foods and mislabeling of food and drugs. This helped the citizens live a safer and healthier life from the dangerous drugs that were being misused. The company that was made to protect the people from companies mislabeling drugs was the FDA.

With both these acts being passed by Theodore it forever changed the way of consumer protection for now on.

Although Roosevelt loved his hunting, he also was a huge advocate of conversation. He has many writings of many successful trips and kills but they all resulted with him being upset with the decline of species and loss of land. In 1872 Teddy was very pleased with the government after they established the Yellow Stone National Park to protect the wildlife. He had a huge admiration from California who was a naturalist named John Muir. Muir was a man who Teddy looked to when it came to the protecting of wildlife. Muir had a huge hand in making congress create the Yosemite National Park in 1890.

After following Muir's advice, the government granted Roosevelt the power to be able to protect timberlands as federal forests. In 1891 he closed off close to 100 million acres of forestland. Even with Teddy being a huge conserver, he understood that much of the land had great resources. With resources that America holds, he is aware that it will majorly benefit the countries economic growth.

Teddy earned himself a big part in the international relations. This is because president McKinley named him the hero of the battle at San Juan. With Roosevelt's huge help with the win in the Spanish American war, it was the beginning of the American empire and as well the turning point for the American foreign policy.

Teddy believed that America should take a step inside of exporting goods. He knows that the goods that America has to offer would have such a big impact on the rest of the world. Roosevelt also ended isolationism that had dominated the country for many years since the mid 1800's.

Another way that Theodore found himself in international relations is that he ended up making agreement terms between the Russian and Japanese war. At this time Roosevelt had become president when McKinley had been assassinated. Both sides of the war against talking to each other, so he made a peace treaty for both countries to sign. With the war ending Teddy had received the Nobel Peace Prize and showed the rest of the world the growth of America's impact in global affairs.

Labor Issues

Roosevelt faced many labor issues in his time during presidency. In 1935 and 1936 the United States economic conditions began to improve. The Federal Reserve started to raise interest rates making it that much harder companies to expand and for people to borrow money. This making unemployment go up 20% and nearly all the money and production was gone.

Another labor issue Teddy went through was that citizens did not have appropriate programs. So Roosevelt launched an aggressive campaign in 1935 to solve all the problems. It was known as the second new deal, which added social security and the other programs to the United States.

The other deal that Teddy made to help with the labor issues was the Square Deal. This deal kept big businesses powerful and wealthy but also took away the control they had over smaller companies. With him allowing big companies to stay open it allowed more people to be employed which improved the economy.
