This is a change because before in the book Sula it talked about how when there was a construction project going on black people weren’t  hired to do it because of racism. The inhabitants of the Bottom and Medallion are change by the work around them because for the first time a master gave a slave a fake crappy deal but the slave still took it and from that people who live in the bottom where god looks below try to proceed and better life for them. 
The relationship between the race change over the course of the novel maybe people in the beginning didn’t really mess around with people but they the end of the book people got together, from friends who barley talk or each other or knew each other learn how to get along with their differences
