Graduating high school seniors are surveyed about how smooth their transition to high school went from graduating WCGS 8th grade four years prior. This information softly aides in increasing rigor in curriculum and emphasis on leadership and other social and spiritual skills required for continued education in a Christian High School and beyond.

These weekly, individual, running records offer reading fluency practice, while measuring reading fluency and comprehension. They also act somewhat as street data assessments by allowing for one-on-one time with a meaningful teacher or staff member in the students’ lives. Staff conducting the assessment can hear direct feedback about the students’ feelings on reading, as well as how the day is going for the student and life in general. Measuring reading fluency for differentiation and guided reading groups, also allows students and families to monitor current growth and continue to set goals for additional growth.

How much effort they invest shows their aptitude, and also often their attitude about learning from day to day. Lower effort and attention to detail reveals possibly needs related to fine motor skills, or apathy about school work because homelife for them may be stressful at the time.

Additionally, it is very common for students to make teachers handmade drawing and crafts and bring them to school. Their homemade, intentional generosity may indicate a feeling of belonging, connection, and mutual respect for the teacher and the learning environment.

STAR testing scores produce quarterly reading goals for students, grade level teachers, and advanced learning teachers. These results benefit students and families who desire and require to be challenged beyond grade level curriculum. While shopping for private schools, prospective families often ask about the differentiation available for advanced learners and those who may require other student services. Data at all the ranges of proficiency is helpful for student growth and for student retention at a whole school level.
