While I liked the format of our last staff meeting - in the sense that it made the most efficient use of our time and I certainly didn't feel like I was having to sit through lots of detailed discussions that had nothing to do with me (yes this is still one sentence), I feel the need to point out a potential negative effect. What is missing from our meetings is the cohesive, family feeling that so many of us were accustomed to at the Junior High after years and years of working together. With the newness of our joint staff, we've had so much to adjust to thus far this year. As a staff though, we've not had any "team building" or any event that allows (or really as it ought to), or forces us to socialize and build connections with one another. I know for a few conversations that folks are feeling quite overwhelmed this year and a little nurturing of the staff might be in order. All people like to feel valued. Teaching can be a very isolating profession. For some of us, staff meetings are a welcome chance for us to hear from our colleagues and feel a part of this very special team. Please consider this too.
-Jen Davidson
