COACH has now grown to have over 700 mentors supporting more than 500 families with 1000 children plus over 100 young people.A mentor is a friend with purpose, offering practical help and mentoring towards life goals. Mentoring is a way to bring out the best in people and help them make use of their own resources and also promotes individual responsibility and builds community cohesion.

We’re convinced that ROC Community Mentors in partnership with COACH will result in communities being blessed and transformed throughout the UK.

North Somerset Council, Polaris Children’s Services, Bridges Fund Management and Outcomes for Children, have come together to deliver “Turning the Tide”. Turning the Tide is an innovative edge of care service, funded through a Social Impact Bond. The aim of the service is to reduce the need for children and young people to be looked after, by either working with families to keep children safely at home, or by keeping care placements short and reuniting children and young people with their families as soon as possible.

The service uses a strength based intensive multi modal intervention over a 12 or 18 week period which involves delivering practical support to the heart of the family in their own home. The support will equip children, young people and the families with the skills and coping mechanisms to reduce unwanted behaviour, increase positive family functioning and build their resilience.

North Somerset Turning the Tide - Polaris Children's Services (polarischildrensservices.co.uk)

Between 2018-2022 we saw an increase in referrals to our children’s service. Across Avon & Somerset it is estimated that 19,000 children and young people will experience sexual abuse before the age of 16.

In January 2022, we decided to focus solely on supporting families so that children could have access to timely, specialist support services that were right for them.
