The Spanish did not want war and they were ready to settle the Florida dispute. Since Spain were worried about the rebellions happening in Mexico and South America, they decided to sign the Treaty. Spain gave up East Florida, and return the US gave up their claims to Spanish Texas. The two countries then agreed on a border. American had become a transcontinental.
