Everything was "normal" until the age of 10, when Andrei's love of listening to music turned into a love of singing.
              In 2002, CRBL proposed to Andrei to join the band Simplu, after he had initially tried to get a place in Akcent. Smiley auditioned at the Roton label, although the proposal came from a band member. 
              As a member of the band, Andrei had to learn to dance, as their songs were always accompanied by choreography. Because of his jovial attitude, Andrei was given the nickname "Smiley" by his bandmates, which he now uses as his stage name.

His debut album ('In my absence') was awarded a gold disc and received the ''Best album'' distinction at the Romanian Music Awards. The first single from the album, "In my absence", was declared "Best song" and earned him the award for "Best solo artist".
In 2012, the artist released the single "Dead Man Walking", which made him the most played singer on radio and television.
The video for "Dead Man Walking" was a world first, with Smiley becoming the first artist to use augmented reality elements in a video.
