Question: Why didn’t Darwin care to study the tortoises when he noticed so many different variations between other animals on the different islands?

Comment: I think that it is interesting that at the same time that Darwin started his theory of evolution, geologists started to develop their theories on how the earths geography has also changed.

Insight: I think it is cool that Darwin was able to even think of this theory. If he hadn’t, I wonder if we would have ever even discovered where life originated from.

Claire- I thought his discoveries of patterns were very interesting. I found it particularly interesting how he noticed different species inhabiting differently globally. How did he go about the studies of fossils? How did he piece together which belonged to existing animals and which didn't?

Katherine: Not sure if this is related to evolution but in most places squirrels are only brown, but there's also red squirrels and I know there are black squirrels in Michigan. Makes me wonder if I were to study them closer would other things also be different?

Fran Barbeito
I thought the different shells of the Isabela and Hood Island Tortiouses were very interesting. I find it fascinating that the diffrent shells are meant to help the tortiuses adapt and live in their unique environments
“Darwin noticed that’s different, yet related, animal species often occupied different habitats within a local area” - this part of the reading was confusing to me. Why were they diffrent s[ecices in a local area? Did the enviorment that the species lived in change within the area?
