As we know there are many people in this world and people who had been to this world that have engraved their markings on the pages of history for doing something great. Like William Shakespeare, Christiano Ronaldo etc. Longfellow is inspiring us to do something great in any field just like them, but to leave behind footprints on the sands of time we must work hard and efficiently.

Some people leave their memory behind them when they die - like footprints in the sand on a beach. When someone in the future 'sees' these footprints - hears about the achievements of someone in the past, they get inspired by their achievements and that their life too can leave a permanent mark on history. Footprints on sand are not made by sitting down. H.W Longfellow tries to get us inspired to leave Footprints on sand. But to leave footprints on sand cannot be achieved by sitting down lazily, we need to work hard for it.
