<< Journey to the West >>
The prototype of Sun Wukong's character is the ancient Indian god monkey Hanuman.
The prototype of the Tang monk in Journey to the West is Xuan Zang Master of the Tang Dynasty in China, but Sun Wukong is an exotic image whose prototype is the ancient Indian god monkey "Hanuman". Hu Shi found the god monkey Hanuman in the ancient Indian epic "Ramayana" and thought it was Sun Wukong's earliest prototype. Chen Yinque not only verified Hu Shi's theory but also used the ancient Indian ”As an example, proved that the story of “Da Nao Tian Gong” also originated from two ancient Indian folk tales, and then spread to China with Buddhism.
Both "Sun Wukong" and "Large Troubles in the Heavenly Palace" are not Chinese originals, but "Journey to the West" is one of the representative works of Chinese classical novels. Sun Wukong written by Wu Cheng'en is also a thoroughly Chinese character. According to Wu Weizhong's logic, Wu Cheng'en "sinified the story of ancient India", which Wu Cheng'en did "contrary to the differences in cultural background" and therefore also affected "Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges." In fact, this is not the case. The artistic achievements of Journey to the West easily overturn this absurd logic. Today, almost all Chinese people regard Sun Wukong as a literary figure of their own nation. Few people know its prototype "Hanuman", and no one calls it "a hybrid freak."
