Vermeer, J. (1665). Girl with a pearl earring [Oil Painting]. De Nieuwe Kirk, Amsterdam

For some reason I feel drawn to this image. The woman holds such grace and elegance that's unexplainable. Her simple pose speaks 1,000 words and that's what makes the painting so grand. The black background allows the colors of her silhouette to stand out.

Barksdale, C. (n/a). Jazz fest [Dark Painting]. Atlanta, Georgia

I chose this painting because of the colors and the emotion you get when you focus on it. The colors are beautiful and work well blending well with the music and features of both men. The jazz vibe makes the picture seem relaxing and soulful. Its a painting that has great energy and makes you happy in a way.

Romero, P. (August 8, 2016). Women volleyball players in watercolor. [Painting].

This painting represents the love I have for volleyball as a sport and a hobby. I played from my freshmen year to senior of high school. The sport played as a stress reliever but was a joyful time in my life as well. Looking at this painting brings back every memory I wish I could relive. I think of the my mom in the crowd screaming my name, the silence when the ball is being served, and the anxiousness of would this pass be a success for the setter. It represents who I was as a player, the skills I had that brought entertainment in my life and my families. It structured my mindset as a team player and made me appreciate everything that came with the sport.

[Color composite photo].

When visiting the art gallery I fell upon this picture and I was simply captivated by the different color tones and destruction of the house. You get so distracted with everything that's happening around the house. And when you take everything in you then realize there's someone in the house. The picture made me think of how life can be, hectic and chaotic. At points we lose ourselves to the storm and it's up to us to decide will we let it win or will we fight.

I often read many articles following Kaepernick and all the attention he got when he started to kneel during the national anthem. For a young man to sacrifice his career for his beliefs is something so rare and culturally influential. Kaepernick is a free agent because he's basically being black balled in the NFL right now, meaning no team will take the risk of signing him. He is too much of a problem and they don't want bad publicity. He is an extremely talented athlete and I applaud him for standing his ground for the rights of his ancestors and the black community.

He was a French artist that focused on etching and charcoal drawings. Maxime attended classical and traditional studies at the I'institution Ore and learned drawing from Saulnier. He also received a Bachelor of letters degree and focused on law rather than art. I will be writing about the selected etching piece. Etching usually consist of making prints on metal or copper by using strong acid. His inspiration to the art was the Société des Aquafortistes. I think Lalanne uses saturation within his art piece. And I plan on focuses on the shading and line sequence used on different items in the etching.

This article reflects how she's been absent from interview takings since 2015 and doesn't plan on changing it anytime soon. The article also focuses on the strategic thinking of when to dropping her record breaking album Lemonade and the death of Prince. Beyoncé and her team actually waited and respected the cremation of Prince and after his ceremony the album was then released. I think a lot of ads and movies tell women they should look a certain way or present themselves a certain way based on what’s hot in pop culture. Being of smaller size has always been the trend but recently being curvy and thicker has become a trend for many reformed women in the spotlight as well as the average woman. We critique ourselves constantly to fit in with groups instead of accepting what we can not change about ourselves or rather being comfortable with who we are. The picture really hit home for me because it is a little girl of my race. From a young age I was always told how beautiful and smart I was but I struggled to believe it. Now that I'm older I see that little girl and I know she's a queen today. Some days I struggle with self assurance but no one can tell me, I'm not great.

Retrieved from: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/322077810828683285/?lp=true

The second theme I thought of was a mother's love. The theme came to me when I saw the picture and thought of my mother as well as my religion (Baptist). My mother is a strong woman who would do anything for her children, her love for us is unconditionally. The prayer stuck out the most because no matter where her children are including myself and my brother being in college. Every morning and night she prays for our well being and thanks god for allowing us to see another day. I thank her so much for her love and dedication to being a mom, it isn't the easiest job but she flourishes in it.

Self worth is a common topic that we choose to ignore and in this art piece she finds it by just observing her reflection. It can take women years to see what their really worth or believe in their true abilities. The painting narrates perfectly discovering your being. Learning and appreciating the queens we women truly are. Embracing our flaws only allows us to stand out more, being comfortable in our skin can change the level of confidence and self love within anyone.

The previous pieces reflected on different aspects whether it was self worth or a mother's love. Each piece representing my life journey and what molded me into myself. Generations of black heritage flows through my veins everyday and my life is a reflection of the sacrifices my ancestors went through so I could achieve what they couldn't. I'm constantly working hard to show my gratitude to my older generations before me. Black excellence come with a price but all the hard work pays off so that I can create a path for girls like me.

MLK was known for his determination and well mannered reputation when it came to helping the black community as much as he could. He was a man who wanted better for his children and his children's children. His goal was to bring two communities of different races together because in the end we're all the same with only different skin tones. He saw equality in everyone and he wanted everyone to reflect and see the vision he saw for the future which was unity. His death sadly was the push that changed certain laws within states and schools. His legacy lives on throughout schools and homes.

Harris, A (April 15, 2019). [Photograph]. Harrisburg, PA. Winnie the Pooh and Piglet.
I chose the following picture of an arts and craft we did with the infants at my job. I found the picture interesting but cute as well because we were able to make something so unique out of their foot prints. The colors replicating Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. The shape of the footing when reversed and ears added make the silhouette of the characters and the yellow and pink also signifying who they are and the lines in piglet also supporting which character is which. The picture speaks a thousand words but the word phrase touches the heart even more. Babies are beautiful little beings and they win your heart almost instantly .

Harris, A (April 17, 2019). [Photograph]. Harrisburg, PA. Haitian Culture.
An aspect that all cultures take pride in is food! My bestfriend Brielle is Haitian and I've been lucky enough to witness her culture many times. Her father prepared griot which is fried pork shoulder, rice and beans, fried yucca, and a smoothie known as ' ji mango' . While at her house I got to experience the full Haitian experience with Haitian music being played while we ate and listen to stories of her father growing up in Haiti. I learned about their food and her father's transition between his move from Haiti to the US. But I also learned about the culture and different foods her they all enjoyed. But they also talked about special holidays and the traditions they've combined with their Haitian backgrounds and now US as well.
