Bruno wanted to get across the fence because there was a kid on the other side of the fence and he wanted to meet him. Bruno wanted to meet the kid because the boy is dressed differently. As time goes on he noticed that everybody on that side of the fence wear striped pajamas. Bruno wants to jump the fence to meet the boy because everyone on the boy's side of the fence wear striped pajamas and a striped hat.

I noticed that his Father stayed at the Out-With because he was determined to find out where Bruno went. His Father was motivated when he found his sons clothes next to the side of the fence because it gave him an idea of where he was last seen.
