Cornelius Vanderbilt was born on May 27, 1794,  in New York. At age 18, he contracted with out U.S Government to supply neighboring outpost  during the war of 1812.  From that he learned the art building ships and navigation. In 1817 Cornelius partnered with Thomas Gibson in the shipping business. In modern times Cornelius would be about 200 billion.
