Intellectual risk taking was shown through our utilities such as our scholar cards and time management tools.  Time management tools were always being pushed through our head in this class. It was important that we had our plans or TO-DO's written in our phones, agendas, or google keep because we had other classes to keep track of. As the year progressed we all found it much easier to have our deadlines written down because it allowed us to stay organized rather than scrambling through your head trying to remember. In addition to time management, the beginning of the year consisted of students, like me, for example who were shy and didn't really have a voice in the class. We had students who didn't want to share out in fear of getting the wrong answer, but with our collaborative table groups it was much easier to calm your nerves by discussing the topic with your neighbor. For example, Shakespeare is a very difficult playwright to understand, but fortunately at my table I had 3 other intelligent peers that helped me better understand what he was saying. Our discussions were always very academic and we had scholar cards which prompted students to partake in more class discussions. As the year progressed our class as a whole, I think, became more comfortable with sharing out their ideas. One of the main reasons being that we would gain participation points for our grade and also sharing out our opinion. Overall these scholar cards helped us students grow individually and as a class. One of the many things we utilized this year was Office Hours and for many, it was a well needed aid to survive this class. Mrs.House or any of the student teachers were always available to help and clarify any dangling questions that were left unanswered. It was extremely crucial to be able to break out of your shell and ask the teacher for help and I'm glad that we learned it's importance this year. It will help us in the years to come when we go to college or get a job, to be able to confront those without fear and ask for guidance. 

I believe we expanded on our ability to not be afraid and be confrontational when needing assistance. Whether it'd be from meeting new people from the seat switches or seeing our teachers everyday, we all grew comfortable with each other to the point where we could ask one another for reliable assistance.

We have learned ways to look beyond the on the surface definition, and to find our own perceptions.

 The Oreo assignment challenged us to chose books that we thought were interesting, but also had a deeper meaning we needed to find ourselves. Throughout the year, we have nearly mastered the “says, means, matters” method of analyzing texts. Not only did this method simply help set up our writing, but it also helped organize our thoughts overall in a manner that made it easier for us to elucidate our ideas and put them into insightful, complex sentences. We were able to dive deeper into texts and bring about analytical conclusions, making writing theses much smoother, and we have learnt a plentiful amount of new vocabulary which has dramatically expanded our diction. In addition to being able to analyze literature, we also had the opportunity to express ourselves and find our own voices in things like our blog posts, which kept reality in check with literature. The blog posts and reflections were meaningful, and urged us to write about things we felt passionate about and allowed us to shed light on important matters. We all feel as if our writing has become far more coherent this year and that our arguments and writing style are much clearer, whether it be in our summative essays or in our fun writing projects such as those in our digital portfolio.

Knowing that in the real world teamwork is crucial, the fact that we all were encouraged and had the chance to work with different peers each quarter on a daily basis made us feel way more comfortable about collaboration. Not only have we gained teamwork skills, but we now also have connections with teachers and peers who can help us succeed. We all agree that we feel much more at ease to work with a random selection of people whom we have been put in a group with and know how to cooperate to get things done. On that note, we have also learnt how to be productive with our responsibilities and know not to and how to not procrastinate. The habit of procrastination, as we may have all experienced at one point in our lives, will only negatively affect our work and cause anxiety and stress. With the time-management skills that we have accumulated in this class from planning out our schedules  (especially for those with numerous extra-curriculars) and prioritizing multiple amounts of work, we are able to get things done efficiently and on time. Lastly, our extensive use of technology this year in English has prepared us for the inevitable use of technology in the future.
