The importance of tourist business in the national economy has been highlighted by the inclusion of tourism sector in the Second (2nd) Malaysia Plan 1971 - 1975.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism was renamed the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Tourism (MoCAT) on May 20, 1992.

Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism (MoCAT) was separated in April 2004 to create the Ministry of Tourism Malaysia (MoTour) which is responsible for all tourism related matters. This initiative indicates the government's commitment to boosting tourism as a major source of revenue for the country.

On 15 May 2013, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia (MoTour) was renamed the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC). This is to highlight the importance of the tourism and cultural sectors working together to promote Malaysia as the World's favourite tourism destination as stated in the phrase " Malaysia, Truly Asia".

As declared by Prime Minister of Malaysia on 2nd July 2018, this Ministry was renamed the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia.

-  To enhance services at MaTiC counters to be efficient and friendly with a waiting period of not more than 10 minutes and providing accurate information to tourists.
-  To manage booking and rental applications of space in MaTiC within 5 working days and to provide quality technical support services.

ARTS ACTIVISTS WELFARE FUND AND CULTURAL FUND
-  To manage the Arts Activists Welfare Fund and Cultural Fund which have been approved by the Culture Evaluation Committee within 7 working days.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
-  To verify payment documentation to contractors / consultants within 5 working days.

COMPLAINTS MANAGEMENT
-  To reply to customer's complaints speedily, accurately and courteously as follows:
    i)  To issue an acknowledgement letter after receiving complaints within 3 working days.
    ii) To issue a follow-up letter for investigation / response within 7 working days after the complaints is received.

FINANCE MANAGEMENT
-  To ensure bills and invoices are paid within 14 working days after a complete document is received.
