A Black Man Talks of Reaping

The poem " A Black Man Talks of Reaping" by Arna Bontemps. The tone of the story is in spite of the fear of the seeds blowing away for example " I have sown beside all waters in my day. I planted deep, within my heart the fear That wind or fowl would take the grain away." The story uses many poetic sound devices like repetition and rhyme sequences. The figurative language of this story is about farming and the idea of farming can not be related to modern struggles. The thematic idea is that African Americans do all the harvesting and hard labor while the white man reaps all the benefits.
