It’s guarding their hearts by modeling respect, listening openly, and stepping in quickly when teasing or exclusion arises. It’s protecting their social world by fostering inclusion, guiding conflict with fairness, and building bonds that prevent isolation. Most of all, it’s knowing our students well enough to notice the small shifts in mood or behavior that tell us when they need care. Supervision is the balance of freedom and structure, of trust and protection—so every child feels secure to learn, play, and grow.

To keep students safe while playing, walk around and keep clear visibility of all areas, actively scan for potential hazards, student related issues, and stay close enough to step in quickly if needed. Supervise each child with care, set clear boundaries, and remind students of safe play expectations. React fast it sure situations to prevent rough or unsafe behavior, teachers should guide students toward positive interactions, and ensure all play equipment and spaces are being used safely.
