In Huckelberry Din, the author uses a serious tone to help get across the main points in the novel. A tone is used to describe the attitude of the author towards an audience. The author also uses the river as a form of symbolism. Symbolism is used to hint at a certain emotion through objects or other things. The river actually symbolized freedom for “civilization.” When Huck is floating on the raft, they feel truly free and happy. Mark Twain also has a great use of dialect, Jim who is a slave in the novel, experiences the most and uses improper words such as the “N” word. It clearly represents the dialect of the time period the book takes place.
