He first served in the role of assistant principal at Wesley Chapel High School, during which time he managed all student services and supervised exceptional student education. Garry Walthall later spent three years as assistant principal of Sun Lake High School, followed by three years as the school's principal. He has served as the assistant principal of J.W. Mitchell High School since 2000. In addition to his school work, he is the author of multiple nutrition and exercise articles published by The White Falcon.

Mr. Walthall studied business management at the University of Maryland. After receiving his bachelor of science he continued his education at Old Dominion University and the University of South Florida, earning a master of science in education and a master of arts in educational leadership, respectively. He has also completed teacher insight and targeted selection training, among other professional development courses.
