Activity 1. Bruce Ismay was the chairman for the aging fleet called white star. His role was to csrry out s project (focused on luxury) to improve the inferior service and stem customer and to reduce market share loss.
Activity 2.
We found interesting the variety of causes which may lead to a project failing. The first one to catch our attention was the one about the "team conflicts", we are aware of how important it is to have a strong, solid team so we found this one really relevant. Another one to put an eye on was the "Us vs them", having a good relation and cooperation between teams in the same project is also crucial because they must strive for the same goals and walk in the same direction for the project to succeed. In this same line we find not "switching priorities" also vital, as doing so may cause confusion in team members, making goals, which should be the main focus, a lot less clear.

ACTIVITY 1:
The aim was to deliver 3 ships over 7 years. The revenue gained from the first 2 ships was going to fund the third one. The project was based on safety, luxury and comfort. They wanted to improve the inferior services and stem customer and reduce market share loss.
But there were several safety issues that they didn't take into account. Due to the need of succeeding, they didn't pay attention to many signs that showed that the project was not going well.
ACTIVITY 2:
Why do projects fail?
- unaligned expectations: even though they might have thought they had the same expectations, they did not and this led them to failing the project.
- switching priorities: if the priorities change and people are not communicated, then there will be a higher risk of failing the project.
- uncontrolled scope: sometimes once the project is running, there are changes on the scope and it is essential for stakeholders to be able to control these changes and expand or modify their scope since if not the project can be put at risk.

Activity 1)
The Project was to deliver 3 ships over 7 years. Ismay took on the Project marketing role, as he moved in the right circles. Revenue from first two ships funds third. The focus was on luxury, space and capacity, as they were 30% larger than others before. Luxury attracts customers, over speed. The ships combined the best of emerging technologies: extensive phone network, wireless marconigram and automated control systems.
The profitability analysis had a 2 year breakeven. First Class generated the 75% of revenue. The scope was based on scale up of previous ships and affected most by emerging technologies.
The ships had high Quality Standards. Phones installed in every critical spot. In theory, no scenario could impact ship safety.

Errors that were committed and caused the sinking of the Titanic:

1) prioritize first class views instead of passengers safety. 48 triple stacked were lowered to 16 single lifeboats. And 20 lifeboats was actually 10% over the mínimum number required.

2) Assumption that the ship would remain afloat long enough for all passengers to get transferres to a rescue ship.

3) compromise the height of 2 of the 15 bulkheads fot the largest “gala” dining room and dance hall

4) missing binoculars from day one

5) rope too short to measure wáter temperatura, fudged tests

6) operators overloaded by commerical traffic, 250 telegrams

7) Operators and staff did not react quickly as they actually thought the ship was “unsinkable”

Activity 2)
Why do projects fail? We found the following concepts important:
- Communication. Team work is crucial, there needs to be communication at all times in order to have a strong team that is able to face possible risks
- Elevation of expectacions of end deliverable allowed business pressures to override operational procedures. Expectations, among other things, need to be aligned in order to achieve success
- Lack of stakeholder (sponsor) management, & further compromises in the implementation. There needs to be a better control of the changes that may appear as the project moves forward to avoid disasters
