I love astrology. During COVID I fell in love with the idea of knowing everything about my birth chart. My virgo moon is how I process my emotions at the end of the day. It is in my 4th house, meaning my family is the most important aspect of my life. Knowing a persons birth chart helps you to actually know them...

I grew up in a community surrounded by individuals who looked just like me. By people who lived my same exact experiences. When I got to college it was shocking to see the numerous amount of people who had not lived my experience. They were majority White. Many came from 6 figure homes and were not relying on FAFSA. Others blatantly did not have cultural awareness nor sensitivity. I majored in public health because I was already aware of the social determinants that plagued my community back home.
Being Black means many things to me. I know I have to work harder at times to be recognised and given credit that my counterparts are awarded. Also being Black I live in fear often, due to the trauma I have from watching my innocent Black citizens killed, and assaulted just for being darker. Being Black, I get sad thinking about the 400 years of slavery and the 20 years of Jim Crowe laws that occurred and were abolished, yet racism is still alive and well in 2023. It angers me that many people who are not Black can not realise and understand why creating safe spaces for Black students is important and needed.

Christian

I have grown closer to God in the last few years. I grew up in the church, since I was 6 months old, but since I felt forced to attend I never created a genuine relationship with him. Being Christian to me means that every glory I am awarded I need to thank the most highest power. He has strengthened me and he has guided me. I pray to him before every exam I walk into. I thank him for the paths he has walked me down. Even if I am alone, I am not because the Lord is in every single part of my being. I fear that I don't always conduct myself accordingly, and for the many mistakes I make, but I ask for forgiveness and for him to not judge me according to my hardness of heart, but according to his mercy and sympathy. I believe being Christian is a privilege because I am able to connect with God in numerous ways. It saddens me that many individuls do not believe in him, but I know that is because they feel as though God has put them through awful things and think that if there was a God he would not allow that. But God allows you to go through hardships because it makes you stronger. You will never know the reason why God has allowed something to happen, but eventually you will, because he never gives you anything you CANNOT handle

Beautiful Black Woman

Since the beginning of time women were not even given the chance to vote. And black women were erased from doing that even more. We were not even considered a whole person, but 3/5ths of one. Black women's history is filled with rape, pillage, and disregard by White individuals. It is filled with being ignored by doctors who let our children die during birth. It is plaqued by being denied an education simply because of the color of our skin and our gender. It is a traumatic history that Black women in todays society have to carry on our backs, a traumatic history that I have to carry on my back. But it is not my place to have to educate individuals on this, it should be basic human decency to be aware of the hardships we have faced. To be aware of what can be done to address these traumas. Yet I, and many others are still disregarded today. Our intelligence undermined, and our rights not fully being our rights. It was not a privilege to be a black woman in 1930, and it is not a privilege to be a black woman in 2023....

Class President

It is a privilege to be able to be one of the class presidents of my cohort. Not to compare myself to Obama, but the same reason he ran for president is why I did. My classmates are not all White, and wanted representation. I know how my family, and my Church, and my next door neighbor's felt the night Obama was announced as our 44th president. They felt heard, they felt empowered, and they felt hopeful for the future. I have vowed to listen to my classmates concerns, fears, and grievances. I want to be their voice. It is a privilege to have been elected by them because every single idea they share with me I yearn to bring to life. Representation is the reason why I have dedicated myself to the PA profession as well. I know the pain Black patients have faced, and the stereotypes that are placed upon them as soon as they walk into a clinic. I hope that when they see my face, they feel in their heart I am there for them, and for all of the right reasons. And I hope my classmates can feel that way as well. <3
