Even though she was near full term in her pregnancy. She tried to stop the fight between the rioters in the streets. “So everybody was like with things they was talkin’, like a carnival, and I say to my friend Frances, “Frances, you see this?” and she said, “Girl, you should see that it's getting worse.” I say, “Girl, let me take my 🤬 up there before something happen.” (Smith, 118) During the fight, she was shot, the bullet landed in the baby's elbow which saved both of their lives. The shock of the bullet induced labor; however, Elvira chose to ignore it. Despite the fact that she was shot and in labor she still tried to stop the rioters unrest. She taught us that even in times of fear, you can still remain strong, and you can still be your best self.
