Louis XVI Summons the Estates General May 4-5, 1789

Many financial problems were being faced in the French Kingdom. They were in a severe economic crisis, and King Louis XVI got many high-ranking people together to try and solve this massive problem. There was a call for tax reform on the common man since they were paying so much. This would help start ideas of the french revolution.

Creation of the National Assembly June 17, 1789

The 3rd French estate locked themselves out since they were calling for new reforms and ultimately calling for a new Constitution. They wanted the will of the people rather than monarchs calling for popular sovereignty. They established the national assembly and this would set the stage to stop radical actions from the Monarchs, and also created radical actions to make sure their new ideas would be implemented.

Storming of the Bastille July 14, 1789

Symbolized the abuse of power by the monarchy. This was done to prove a point to the monarchy. They were tired of the food shortages and high prices but also the high taxes they endured. They demanded the release of weapons and when their request wasn't met they stormed the Bastille. This was one of the first actions of the French revolution challenging the local authority. This helped to spread "revolutionary fever" all across France.

The Abolition of Feudalism August 4, 1789

When the National Assembly passed laws to eliminate feudal privileges, land taxes all in hopes of trying to gain more equality got the common man. This abolition showed the shift in power legally trying to redistribute land right trying to break down the barriers but up by the people they saw as tyrannical monarchs at the time.

Declaration of The Rights of Man and Citizen August 26, 1789

This was a foundational document that showed the reason for their revolution. It is written that people are born free with rights and calls for separation of power something that isn't there with the monarchy. Also that laws should be the will of the people playing a crucial role in shaping peoples understanding of equality and influenced documents and revolutions around the world.

The Women's March October 5, 1789

This March showed the turmoil in the French revolution with high food prices and economic inequality was one of the main things that fueled the women march in France. With women and also some men they marched 12 miles from Paris to Versailles. They were not only marching for economic inequality but they were also marching for political change and social justice. This was just another event showing the deterioration of power that the royal family used to have.

Royal Flight to Varennes June 20-21, 1791

This was when the king and his royal family tried to escape to Varennes. He tried to escape to try and gain support from people on the Eastern front. However, he didn't get out while he was disguised as a servant he was found. They detained him and his family. This showed that the monarchy wasn't viable helping to shift the power from a monarchy to a central government.

Arrest, Trial, and Execution of King Louis XVI January 21, 1793

He was arrested during the royal flight to Varennes. He was publicly tried and then charged with conspiracy against the safety of the public he would try and plead his case however he was still executed. He was killed by the guillotine. This marked the definitive end of the bourbon monarchy this intensified conflict between monarchies and the ideas of revolution.

Napoleon's Italian Campaigns Started in 1796

Throughout all of his military campaigns, he used many innovative military tactics he defeated Austria and Italian forces with all of these major wins he helped to reshape the map of Europe. Helping to expand French influence all across the continent. With all of these major wins and territory gains it led home to the first consul and then the emperor of France.

Napoleon's Invasion of Egypt June 1, 1798

Napoleon wanted to undermine the British for access to India for trade and also wanted to disrupt trade routes that the British already had in place. He also wanted France to have power in the Eastern Mediterranean they could gain this if they won. When they did win they brought many scientists to help gain knowledge of the place and also found the Rosetta stone helping to translate hieroglyphs. This also helped his political standing back in France.

Coup of 18th Brumaire November 9, 1799

A political instability made by Napoleon, he saw it as an opportunity to gain power. He planned the coup with his wife to try and gain power. With his power, he forced many of the people in power to resign in the directory. This is seen as the end of the French revolution when he gained power. With his new found power he established the consulate to rise to power.

Battle of Austerlitz December 2, 1805

He fought against Russia, Austria, and other allies that challenged him. It was a decisive victory for him and France. They won due to Napoleons military might and a treaty was signed to diminish the coalition against Napoleon helping Napoleons Reputation but also made it more possible for him to acquire more lands.

Battle of Trafalgar October 21, 1805

This was a naval battle between the British and the French along with a little help from the Spanish. Napoleon was trying to invade Britain but he would need to control the waters to do so. However through British General Nelson's smarts Napoleon was forced to retreat. This ultimately showed that Britain was still the world most prominent superpower when it came to their navy, and limited Frances ability to challenge the British by sea.

Consisted of high ranking officials from the countries of Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Great Britain trying to restore the boundaries that were in place before the Napoleonic Wars. Also to try and stop French oppression they also created buffer states to help further try and stop the expansion of the powerful French.

Napoleon's Exile and Death May 5, 1821

After the battle of Waterloo he was now exiled to Saint Helena's island. This was an isolated island controlled by the British so he couldn't escape again. The place he was was deemed inescapable. While he was on the island he had poor health. He was sick a lot and had major stomach pain and then died of what was thought at the time stomach cancer. When he had an autopsy done it was confirmed he died from stomach cancer although he had many other health implications.
