• This quote is a theme of chaos and order because the children were handling a very dangerous weapon, a gun. At the same time, they were protecting each other and themselves. They were working together on protecting Maureen and keeping themselves safe at the same time. The picture below shows a person protecting the other person from the rain (chaos) with an umbrella (gun) as the rain is around them. They can control the rain by not letting themselves get wet just like the children could control the situation and handled the gun as a sign of protection (order).

• Looking at this long passage, forgiveness is a theme portrayed by Jeannette. She realized the purpose in her dad's lesson and forgave him for continuously drowning her. The picture of the man helping a woman up from falling/slipping, reminded me of Rex promising that he was never going to let her drown.

This dialogue between Jeannette and her father, Rex, was after Rex had told her that he was dying. Jeannette was always Rex's favorite and they shared special times together. Even though Rex was far from the greatest parent, he still loved Jeannette unconditionally. • This quote represents broken promises because the foundation of what was going to be the Glass Castle filled up with garbage. The picture of the promise broken in half in the cement reminds me of the promise never kept by Rex on building the Glass Castle. Concrete, when split in half, cannot be taped or sewn together but has to be demolished and re-done. In this case, that's what Rex would need to do. Start fresh.

• The theme of acceptance is shown here by Rose Mary. She had to accept the fact that Jeannette wasn't going to ask Eric for a million dollars. The picture below shows that she had to accept instead of tolerate Jeannette's decision.

• The picture of the unusual man walking away from the "normal crowd" reminds me of the Walls family. Rex and Rose Mary didn't raise their children the way other families did. Normal parents also wouldn't let their little children's hands be licked my a cheetah.
