When three runaway indentured servants were captured, the General Court of Colonial Virginia gave the white servants additional years to serve while John Punch, a black man, was sentenced to servitude for life. Punch was the first African in Virginia to be enslaved for life.

Some historians believe that john punch was the first slave in the English colonies 

Some historians also consider this to be one of the first legal distinctions between Europeans and Africans made in the colony, and a key milestone in the development of the institution of slavery in the United States

So the United States took their land, and forcefully relocated them. A variety of battles happened between the two, and some natives had victory, but overall the Natives lost. So they were pushed further and further, more land being annexed and less land for them to inhabit.

    Then there was a point where continued annexation had lost it's benefits, enough land was taken. The native population was rather high too, so to fix that the United States opened up schools to "educate" the natives in forgetting their culture. They took away any and all things native from the children, and made them more "American". Although their attempts failed on the long run overall.

    Natives eventually gained citizenship and life continued, although citizenship doesn't mean an easy life, or a life without racism.

    This is very important when you look at freedom as a oppressed population can never be free as long as there is any type of attack against them. An attack can not only be physical, but also cultural, you can remove a society by removing whatever foundations hold them up. There are few things that can be objectively "American", as the United States as a whole is a nation built of many demographics that keep their culture.

In 1845, U.S President James Polk offered to buy California and New Mexico from the government of Mexico. James Polk wanted to make Rio Grande the border between the different countries. But that would also mean that Texas would become part of the United Sates. The government of Mexico refused so Polk went behind the Mexican government backs and sent military forces to Rio Grande in retaliation. 
    - This event is important because it shows you how America got California. California is one of the reasons America is so rich till this day. For example people would come during 1848 to California because the Gold Rush started.
