My name is Ana Ojala. I live at Lake Newell Resort, Alberta which is on the traditional hunting grounds of the Blackfoot Nations in the Treaty 7 Region of Southern Alberta which includes the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, and the Metis peoples.

I was born in Mexico and grew up in Texas where my family immigrated when I was a child. I met my husband the first time I went to university. We are empty nesters as of this past weekend when we dropped off our last child at UBC. Such a beautiful campus!

I own a Reggio Inspired (RI) childcare centre and an out of school care program in Brooks, Alberta. I absolutely love the life I have created for myself and my chosen career. I have taken an unconventional educational journey. Most people my age are looking forward to retiring yet I feel that there is no time frame for learning, setting goals, contributing, evolving, and honoring ourselves.

I do some advocacy work on behalf of children and families locally, regionally, and provincially. The most noteworthy is my provincial appointment to the National Child Day (NCD) Steering Committee for Alberta. My master’s journey is about becoming better in my practice, using gained knowledge to advocate for children and families, and mentoring those that will surely come after us in our field.

This is one of my favorite pictures. I found this creation after it had rained. I loved it so much because it illustrated theory to practice in so many ways, especially in the inherent relationship that children have with nature and our natural resources.
