Like many positions in the music industry, Live Sound Technicians require strong soft skills particular in the areas of communication, teamwork, adaptability and problem solving.

COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK

For the successful execution of team base tasks, the sound engineer needs to be an effective communicator. An example of this is in a professional theatre setting, where the sound technician will have to work alongside the lighting technician to achieve seamless theatrical effects.

ADAPTIBILITY AND PROBLEM SOLVING

Like all things live, there is always room for error and things going wrong. In this role, a person is not just responsible for themselves, but those on stage and the audience's experience. A live sound technician must be able to effectively solve and trouble-shoot a range of issues.

• In the process of making tracks or albums, producers will always be required to collaborate with the main artist or artists.

• This collaboration involves communication between the artists and the producer, whether its deciding the sound or genre they are targeting, suggesting and choosing instrumentalists or mixing engineers.

• Producers often take leadership, being sometimes the creative leader in charge of the sound of the record, and arranging how and the people it is required to be made.

• They need to be able to easily adapt to whatever artists have in mind. Flexibility is important in finding ways to include everyone else's ideas.
