The US has around 325.7 million people in it. If we lost half of the US population, there would be DRASTIC changes in our lifestyle. The economy would be sorely damaged and face a large drop in value, as many, MANY workers as well as businessmen would be lost. Religious peoples may blame certain groups for the loss and declare a separation, which would cause a deep divide within the already damaged society. Socially, you are bound to lose friends, family, or acquaintances and politically there would be fear-mongering and probably an unfair and dictator-like enforcement of power. While the world is overpopulated, losing such a large number would change in a way nobody would be prepared for. Moral would be at an all-time low, and people would be too scared to speak and act freely. Any law we had would be tossed aside in hopes of survival. This could truly be an apocalyptic society.

In terms of politics, it would depend who was affected by the plague. For example, it would have a greater affect on the population if a higher ranked politician was to die. In social life, many family members and friends would be greatly affected, especially since the plague could spread between them, causing more issues. Another aspect of social life would be what used to be highly populated cities to scarcely populated and almost empty. It would be like going to New York and seeing all of the stores and restaurants closed and abandoned with no one on the streets. The Black Plague was most likely worse in big cities because of tight quarters and highly populated areas. Religion could probably help to keep some people grounded, as they pray to overcome the plague. However, religion could also be weakened with the churches/holy places not receiving enough money to be kept up. The economy would also suffer from lack of consumers, therefore the merchants would probably have too much inventory and not enough business.

If half of the US population died due to the Black Plague, that would be like 161 million people dying within a matter of weeks, if not more people. Things in our every day lives would change, including politics, economy, social life, and religion. As far as politics goes, as long as none of the important politicians died, then not much would happen. However, if, for example, the president died, that would drastically change the lives of millions of people--the millions of people left to live. For the economy, prices would go up significantly, many jobs would be lost, people would suffer under their needs to help save family members. Social life would be extremely affected, as this truly is our every day life, interacting with people who for all we know in the next month could be six feet deep under ground in a white casket decaying slowly. Religion I think would be heavily relied on, many people praying to their gods for protection and safety and good health for the loved ones around them. I think this would be a time where many people either picked up religion, or dropped it. If they picked up a religion, it would be because maybe they had some hope that some god somewhere would be able to help them. If people were to drop a religion, it would be because they believed that no matter how hard they were praying, the god they believed in seemed to be doing nothing to help and they had lost all hope. The Black Plague in America would certainly be a devastating thing to make all history books and impact people for generations and generations. Although I'm sure with the advanced technology we have nowadays, scientists would find at least some way to prevent the spreading of the Black Plague.

If half of the United States population died in the next year, the economy of our country extremely - and would therefore effect everything else. Imagine walking down a commercial street such as Libbie/Grove or Cary, as seeing the majority of the shops's windows filled with cardboard and for sale signs plastered to every-other door. All of the businesses that previously flourished and contributed to the strong American economy would be depleted, and therefore the overall economy would suffer. Though the remaining businesses would flourish because of the limited competition, the overall sense of entrepreneurship would be a shell of its former glory. Also, the prices of necessities in stores would be increased, putting pressure on the surviving families. The added pressure creates anger and stress on each individual - and adds to the sadness accumulated from seeing loved ones die. Therefore, the social life in America would be tense, and the added pressure creates a stressed arena worldwide for business, circling back to economy. Politicians would have to address the millions of bodies to be buried and the depleted abilities of survivors in their campaigns. Half the American population gone would result in an unbalanced economy and would therefore upset the majority of the country's functions. Global interactions would be strained and our military's fundings would also be depleted - putting America at risk for more vulnerability/hardship.

If half the population of the US died the economic stability of our country would weaken. Not only are regular citizens dying, but possible politicians are gone as well. The government and politics of our country would dramatically change. Things more simple as small communities, daily lives would have to be altered. With the loss of thousands of people per one small company would destabilize the business. Things as big as the government would change completely. If we lost an important politician it would definitely fall because even with the entire population, the government struggles in areas to improve the country. Also, losing millions of workers can effect how well the social life is in the US. With the lack of workers, more people would have to take jobs that help support the country. This country thrives off the passion and work that millions of people give,

Politics would be impacted if more of the higher political people were to die like the president or vice president. Businesses would have a very difficult time trying to stay open because of a shortage of employees and customers. Religions would also be impacted because like the Black Death in Europe, people started to believe that it was Gods way of punishment.

It seems really hard to imagine going into a place like Carytown and seeing nobody there. Or going to Starbucks with three people from your homeroom and realizing it isn't open because non of the employees are still alive. It sounds so dramatic to actually think about it that way, but I think that was the reality during the Black Plague. I can't see our political system surviving. With all the panic and confusion, it seems likely that a dictatorship would form, and chances are they would be a religious leader, since a disease that could overcome all modern medicine would be extraordinary, none would know what to believe. I think in society there would still be people that would cling to what we know as scientific fact. Everyone would buy every tube of Lysol wipes they could find. Kroger would look like one of those disaster scenes in apocalyptic video games or movies. People would barricade themselves in their houses. With that modern warfare technology, I can see people turning to violence pretty quickly. It would be similar to the Black Plague, but also pretty different. Back then, it was normal to not understand the world around you, but today not so much. Anything that defies all modern advancements as we know it (which it would have to if it killed so many people) would be completely unheard of. It's the people that can understand this concept that are called doomsday preparers today. I can picture people going and digging up old World War II bomb shelters and using them as places for quarantine. A lot of resources would run out quickly. Modern Americans rely on each other and specialized labor, and if everyone were to isolate themselves, the ones that don't die from the plague would die from starvation or some other natural case, simply because they don't know how to survive.

I can't even being to imagine how different it would be in we lost that many people just within a year. It would change the politically if the more important people were to die such as the President or Military leader. My social life would be much quieter yet depressing. I would have a lot less people to talk to. Economically the money world would drop dramatically i think because if most of the people involved with the economy had died, people would start to not pay their taxes, mortgages, electric bills etc. Religion would also be impacted because like the Black Death in Europe, people would start to believe that God was punishing them or using this way as a punishment.

Losing half of the US population the the plague means losing roughly 163 million people. Not only would the US people suffer mentally, but the economy, politics, religions, and social lives would suffer greatly. The economy would undoubtedly suffer a huge loss, if not collapse completely, after losing half of the population. Theoretically that means 50% of the workers in each specific area would be gone, leaving many positions open. Many companies and businesses would be forced out of business, and resources like education would likely become scarce. Religions would likely have different viewpoints on the cause of this plague and could easily become violent, fighting over who was right. While antibiotics for the plague are available, the outbreak of bacteria would cause a serge in need for the antibiotic. Assuming doctors are dying too, access to the cure would become lesser and lesser.

If half of the United States population died from the plague, there would be numerous major changes especially those regarding economy, social life, politics, and religion. Those who hold political power would have to take action in order to keep our nation together as a whole. Many commercial businesses would suffer from the loss of employees and therefore would affect our economy. The decrease in people would greatly impact how our society functions. Social life would be very different since there would be less and less people to do things with. If major leaders died, our country would struggle with wondering what next steps to follow, and thus causing people to take action. Similarly to how people in Europe thought the Black Plague was God's punishment, people would have similar opinions to the reasoning behind the disease. This would lead people to either have a strained relationship with God, or to be praying more to ask God for a solution. The loss of half the US population would drastically affect our lives and those around us.

I think our society would just completely fall apart. We wouldn't know what to do with ourselves or where to put our money. Eventually crucial buisnesses like hospitals would run out of staff, police stations will have no actuall employed police officers, and if your house catches on fire then too bad because there probably isn't a fire station anywhere near you. Churches won't have anybody attending and religions could be lost.

Obviously, the economy would most likely shut down along with other businesses because there would not be enough people to do the job. There is also a large chance that you would and everyone else would have to leave your job or school because half of the people are affected by the plague. Hospitals and health centers would be super chaotic themselves, trying to care for all those who have the black plague - there would be an unbalanced ratio of workers to patients that it might cause it to shut down. Those in high government or authoritarian positions would be down and it would be hard for just half of those in that power to try and help the outbreak. Also, it would be a sad environment from all of the loss of half of the population.

It’s so hard to even begin to imagine an event like the Black Plague occurring in the U.S. It would change not only the amount of people in the country, but the way we live our lives. A second Black Plague would mean walking into school to find that only half of my class has survived, and that some more are dying slowly and painfully. This doesn’t mean that the survivors would be untouched. They would have to cope with the loss of people that they loved, and possibly being next. This is enough to drain anyone. The death and the fear itself is only the start of what would happen.

I’m sure that the fear and loss that most people would experience would leave people in shock for years to come.
