Navodari is a town situated on the coast of the Black Sea, in the South East of the country, 15 kilometres away from Constanta. Navodari has been known for the petrol industry as there resides one of the largest petrol plants from the country, Petromidia or Rompetrol. One can easily imagine that air pollution is one of the major problems of our city. Moreover, being a seaside resort, Navodari does not lack water pollution, as there are a lot of tourists that come and visit the city every summer, and a lot of litter result as well. What can be done is to invest a considerable amount of money into the acqusition of garbage bins for the touristic area and more public awareness education shoul be held. What is more important is that Navodari is at the limit of Grindul Chituc( a.piece of.land that separates the lakes and the Danube from the Black Sea, until.the former flows into the latter), which is a reservation, and a protected area of the Danube Delta biosphere. That is why it is important to prevent pollution in this area, both for human residents and the extinct species from the protected area .

In Vienna, one of the biggest environmental issues is trash on the streets and in parks, especially plastic bags and packages. Sometimes, this plastic even lands in the river Danube, which becomes very dangerous for the fish and other aquatic organisms. Through time, the trash can be dismantled into microplastic, which is extremely small and makes cleaning the river much more difficult. Solutions to this problem are, for instance, reducing the usage of plastic bags and packages in shops as well as recycling and separating it from other trash. We also need to spread awareness so that people realise how important and problematic this issue is.

A study has shown that there is more trash swimming in the Danube than expected. The plastic particles are a serious danger to the animals.

The Danube is significantly more polluted with plastic waste than it was assumed until now. The scientists from Universität Wien came to that conclusion in the “Environmental Pollution” magazine: There are more plastic parts than fish larvae in several points of the river. According to their estimations, 1.000 cubic meter of the water contain 317 plastic particles and only 275 larvae on average.

Actually, the Viennese scientists only wanted to prove the spread of the larvae. They used nets to examine the shores of Danube in the years 2010 and 2012. “We were really surprised by the results “, says Aaron Lechner, one of the scientists. The degree of pollution can also be transferred to other bodies of water. “Sind this is a global problem, the assumption is of course very natural”, so Lechner.

According to the study, around 80 percent of the waste is made of industrial stock - small palettes, balls and flakes made of coloured plastic. The rest most likely consists of communal waste. The size of the plastic particles is maximal 10 millimetres and the fish larvae are between 5 and 15 millimetres.

Fish mistake the plastic particles for food

The danger appears when the microplastic gets taken for insects or fish eggs by the fish. These animals would then feel full, harm their insides and eventually die.

After an expansion, it was found out that the Danube lets around 4,2 tons of plastic waste get into the Black Sea every day. There are over 200 million tons of plastic produced worldwide. And of that, estimated 6 to 26 million tons end up in the sea. Moreover, around 70 percent of that waste sinks to the bottom of the sea.

We can decrease these problems if we put our trash to the bin. Finally, people in big cities should use public transport beacuse it’s less harmful to the environment.

We have a huge company called ERDEMİR in Ereğli . Its the largest factory of Turkey ,and so nearly 6.000 people work there . The company export steel and iron so we can talk about air pollution . Different gases go to air from the the chimneys of factory because of this harmful gases air pollution comes out. For a solution, chimney filters should be changed and checked on time. At the same time, factory wastes should be controlled by the municipality. Thus, the black sea will remain clean.

Ereğli is famous for its beach and picnic areas by the sea. Thousands of people come to visit Ereğli in spring and summer. The population becomes crowded and environmental and coastal pollution increases. People throw their garbage around and in the sea. In order to solve this problem, warning signs should be reproduced, beach cleanup control officers should be assigned, people should be educated, and they should be encouraged to collect their garbage. Coastal cleaning activities should be carried out by forming volunteer groups by the municipality.
