I am Honore Gabriel Riqueti. Although I am a noble, a member of the second estate, I cannot ignore the struggles of the French citizens as a whole. Throughout the beginning of 1789, I was involved in many scandals for supporting the Third Estate and developed myself as a voice of the people. With the trust of the commoners, I was one that led them to the meeting of all the deputies of the three estates, but when we arrived the door was locked. This blatant act of class separation was the final straw. In a angered but determined mindset, us that were locked out and other members of the third estate assembled at a nearby tennis court. We named ourselves the National Assembly, a collective voice of the people. We stayed there, vowing "not to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established".

http://www.emersonkent.com/images/tennis_court_oath.jpg

The Fall of Bastille: July 1789

I am Maximilien Robespierre. I understand the struggles in the third estate and argued along with them for a larger voice in the government. The king refused our demand. Times were very tough most were unemployed so it was very desperate. Rumors had spread that the king may be organizing an attack from the French military to put us back in our place. With fear flourishing throughout the third estate on July 14, 1789, I was not surprised to see a mob had stormed Bastille, a royal prison. The purpose was to gain supplies like gunpowder to defend the city of Paris and show that they would not back down to the monarchy's oppressive rule. It did not take much time before they successfully entered, passing the French guards and even placing their heads on sticks and parading them around. The Paris Newspaper recognized us by writing the "people bravely faced death and every danger." It was a victory.

https://timedotcom.files.wordpress.com/2016/07/bastille.jpeg

I am Abbe Sieyes. The date is the 27th of August, 1789. I am elated to stay that the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen has been passed by the National Assembly. I am very honored to have had a role in drafting this document alongside Marquis de Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson. Our hopes for the document was to outline a set of unalienable rights for all of the French citizens. This list of rights would not be able to be taken away and would abolish any abuse of human rights by oppressive monarchs. Under this declaration, the French people will thrive and be protected. Enclosed in our document are freedoms such as speech, religious toleration, and fair legal punishment.

https://content.wdl.org/14430/thumbnail/1430183609/616x510.jpg

Declaration of War with Austria & Prussia: April 1792

I am King Leopold II. The French Revolution has been a major concern to all of the European monarchs. At first, I tried to handle the situation in France very carefully with little to no intervention. But as things started to gradually get more violent, I knew it was time to step in. It was for all of the monarchies across Europe. If it could happen to France why wouldn't it happen in Austria?Along with King Frederick William II of Prussia, I declared my concern officially. The Declaration of Pillnitz was issued in August of 1971 and said that I and all of my allies would use force, if necessary, to maintain the monarchy in France. The French Revolutionaries feared my concern and took it as an offense to France. As tings began heating up to a real conflict between Austria and France militarily, I passed on in February of 1792. Though I know my troops will easily wipe out those French rebels, even without my supreme control.

https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cnTct-6Vuwc/WNy3Ysf11kI/AAAAAAAAlUU/NVkzzCPDmnEZtfZNMM_uW-pO2Sfs0RHfgCLcB/s1600/489px-Kaiser_Leopold_II_in_Feldmarschallsuniform_c1790.jpg

I am Marie Therese. After what I just witnessed I will never be the same. My father, King Louis XVI, was just executed on the guillotine. He was convicted of treason by the National Convention and beheaded for it. They stated all of the reasons for it, but I didn't understand much. I think they were angry because we tried to leave France. I just don't understand how they think he could be a bad leader. I think the Revolution is a worse leader for the country. And now I am left with no father, maybe soon no mother.

https://c8.alamy.com/comp/BNBK7J/execution-of-louis-xvi-in-paris-21-january-1793-BNBK7J.jpg

I am Olympe de Gouges. I live in the third estate where we rely heavily on the source of bread. It is one of the most important, if not the most important, food source of the third estate and whole nation. Recently, bread prices skyrocketed and my family could no longer be fed. Times are very tough and I am one of the fortunate that is not one of the many unemployed women. Still, a full week of wages can barely buy a single loaf. This is not sufficient to feed my family. We were tired of living in the King's tight oppressive grip. A large group of women, including me, began a march to Versailles and the more we marched the more joined us and by the time we reached the palace there were at least a few thousand from what I could see. We stormed the guards and the King understood we meant business. He eventually, reluctantly, bent to our will. France can thank the women this time.

http://affordablehousinginstitute.org/blogs/us/wp-content/uploads/womens_march_6_oct_1789-600x319.jpg

I am Geoges Danton. Robespierre has gone mad. His chaotic 'rule' is worse than the kings, dare I say it. When I was elected to the Committee of Public Safety last year I never believed it would morph into whatever you would call this. Terror. It began when I was working with foreign affairs and trying to find compromises with enemy nations, finding peace in this conflict. With my more peaceful lookout, I was seen more as a moderate to the people and I was not reelected. Slowly the Committee became Robespierre's puppet and he was becoming more extremist by the day. Now if there was any suspicion that you could be slightly for the monarchy, whether truthful or not, you were sent to death by Robespierre. I am now here as an innocent man, sitting, waiting to be executed because of my peaceful views.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b1/Georges_Danton.jpg

Royal Family Tries to Escape: June 1791

I am Marie Antoinette. The date is the 20th of June, 1791, and my husband, my children and I are fleeing Paris. We have become animals in a cage that was once ruled by us. We had hopes of escaping to my home country of Austria to live free lives. I couldn't even imagine what our lives would be if we stayed in France. This country was torturous. As we continued to run, we were almost near the border, but were captured in Varennes. The thought of what they would do to us was too much to bear. My last hope was diminished to nothing by the rebels, and that hope was replaced with fear.

https://ryanphunter.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/800px-louis16-1775.jpg
