The differences between how young people and a retiree save and spend money are aplenty. For one, a retiree is more concerned about protecting their wealth than personal growth. However, it's the complete opposite for young people. We seek out for more personal growth and are more apt to spend money to establish ourselves, only saving 10% of our income for retirement

For me, my financial goal is mostly in line with what it states in PF Unit 4, " Your goals might be paying off debt, saving for a down payment on a first home, establishing a college fund for your children, and/or putting away funds for retirement." I think this sound like a well grounded plan and am not opposed to following it. Furthermore, I think it is the most wise plan to follow because if I was to jump ahead and start saving 10-20% chances are I'd have more debt than I knew what to do with than more money; You don't put the cart before the horse.
