The Red Pencil: 3/11
In The Rec Pencil, I noticed how the author is mainly telling the story of what Amira is thinking and remembers instead of what is actually happening. For example, when her mother is telling her about the Janjaweed, most of the dialogue on that page is Amira thinking about rather than what her Muma is saying. This also happened when her Dando is telling the story of her birth. Amira starts to think about the tale of when her sister was born and the memories she has of playing loud music to bring the moon out(in order to protect her new sibling from curses).

A positive relationship in my book is Amira and old Anwar because after Dando (Amiras dad) was killed by the Janjaweed, Old Anwar was like a father to Amira, and Old Anwar also taught Amira math and the english alphabet and how to read. This makes me think that Old Anwar likes treat Amira like if she was his own daughter.

The Red Pencil: 3/15
A positive relationship in my book is between Amira and her father. Her Dando shows support in Amira wanting to go to school, even though girls in her country are expected to stay home and work. Amira once spied on her father and his friend and heard him say how bright she was and how she deserved to shine more. This proves that he believes in what his daughter wants even if it is considered un-traditional or rebellious of her.

The Red Pencil: 3/15

A slightly negative relationship seems to be between Amira and her Muma. Muma does not support her wish to go to school and tries to push her into the routine of yard work, cooking, and cleaning. Even though Amira clearly loves and is thankful for her, the fact that Muma won’t support her daughter’s dream gives Amira a good reason to be upset towards her. It isn’t like she’s being prevented from seeing a friend or traveling, she’s having an entire world full of literature and math taken away. It is clear that Amira does not wish to become an obedient wife, and instead learn to write and read. But if Muma wants to recreate a positive relationship with her daughter, she must let go of tradition and let Amira be herself.

positive relationship for the dad and the neighbor is that they have fun arguing with . For example, Amira asked why the dad and the neighbor argue about something god has created, and the dad says that it is fun. This makes me think that insulting could hurt in one way and it can build friendships on another way.

A negative relationship between the dad and the neighbor is that they sometimes insult to much, for example, they would argue all day and night about who has the better tomatoes. This makes me think that they must be tired arguing all the time.

3/17/21: My Side Of The Story
A negative relationship is between Will and his father. Even though Will seems to think he is an admirable man, his father still punishes his son for small things and refuses to hear his side of the story. The way we can assume he hits him 8 times for not knocking before entering shows how little care he takes in about his son's feelings.
A way I like to see it is that the father likes to be treated like an authority, and others think respect means to be treated like a person. He thinks that if you don't treat him like an authority, he won't treat you like a person.
A way the relationship could change for the better would be if Will's mother had a talk with his father(since his Dad seems to respect his wife very much) and she could tell him to stop technically abusing his children.
