3) Select one of the purposes of government located within the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution and formulate a statement identifying a present example of how the U.S., state, or local governments meet that purpose and explain why.

Be detailed with specific reasons. You can use examples from this quiz and from your own life." (Includes optional sentence starters) (Has students evaluate this contemporary tool and its social impact. Would like to level up the rigor and require specific references from source material)

2) Read a short narrative mentor text with a partner, annotating for setting, descriptive language, plot structure, and reflection.

3) Write 3 paragraph narrative using the mentor text and annotations as a model.

1. Low risk entry: start with a personal question - such as, what is something you believe in or cherish, something that keeps you going?

2. Scaffolded skill building: pose and reframe the written response question prompt - such as, what does religion mean to you? by asking additional framing questions like what is religion, why do people have religion, do you consider yourself religious?

3. Authentic real world application: students write their own summary/reflection 3-5 sentences using ideas from discussion. Result should be a respectful but personal response that demonstrates understanding of the key concepts in the book and how we connect with others out in the real world.
