Related species that are allopatric (geographically isolated) tend to have similar body structures because they are using similar resources. Species that are sympatric would compete for the similar resources so they develop different structures to help them depend on different resources. Two species of the galapagos birds living on the same island had different size beaks, whereas on the islands where only one species was living, their beak size was shown to be similar to the other species living on the other island.
