Enrolment - on the 28th I came into Barnsley college to enrol into travel and tourism at Honeywell campus. I had to explain to the tutor why I wanted to do travel and give her my results and communicate about what my next steps were. I answered all the questions asked confidently and passionately. I could have improved as to why I wanted to do it further and what my future plans are.

In my job I am a carer, I have to make sure my residents are feeling safe and I have to communicate with them - sometimes non-verbally - and find out how they feel and if they need anything. I make my residents feel happy and comfortable by communicating with them and helping them by taking them to the toilet etc.

Outside of college and work I do kickboxing. This helps my communication skills as I have to help out other people that train and partner them and explain the task. I speak confidently and loud so that the other person feels comfortable. I could improve my confidence more as I don’t like speaking to new people.

Outside College I work a part-time job in a pub. When it is really busy, we all help each other even if it means some of our bar staff-including me- have to go upstairs and go help out in the kitchen. I could change when working as a team not getting stressed when its busy as it only makes the situation work. This will help the team be more confident. and work better together.

During college, we came together as a team and was challenged to make a balloon chair and a staff member would sit on it and the team with the less balloons that had popped would win. So my team used teamwork to come together to make an idea of how the balloons wouldn't pop. Then we all used each others help to stick them together in their positions. What we could do better next time is all remain calm when thinking of a plan on how to do it.

On Thursday we had to get into groups and make a pre-flight briefing to perform for our assessment. We worked as a team as we had to all come together to write our speech and work out who's reading which line. We could have communicated more to get our points across to make the task easier and all understand each other.

When i worked in a care home, we did a charity event to raise money for Barnsley Hospice. What went well was that we raised thousands of pounds for the charity, however, the bad thing is that it was bad weather which meant it was very chaotic and people went home early and residents were cold.

I work full time in a pub as a kitchen manager. i love working here as i get paid enough and it keeps me motivated and i get to help people have a good day. It also gives me independence and I am trusted to look after the place. I work 40 hours a week most of the time.

A time i have been reliable is when i always make sure my tutors make sure they know where i am and what time i will be coming and leaving. This makes me reliable as they can count on me and trust me.

A time I have been reliable is when my boss was struggling at work as it was busy and asked me to come in to help and i was there within 15 minutes. This makes me reliable as people can trust me to turn up and help out when needs be and I wont let them down.

A time i have showed support is when my friend was scared to do a presentation in college so i supported her and made her feel comfortable enough to do it encouraging her that she will be fine and to ignore that everyone is there.

Another time i was supportive is when i was at work in the care home a woman was having to learn to walk again after an operation and she felt like giving up. I held her up and told her i was there if she felt like she was going to fall and she was able to start walking bit by bit again.

Another time i was supportive and a mentor is when i used to be a dancer and began helping out showing toddlers how to dance and do new moves. One girl was scared to do a walk over so i helped her step by step for weeks until she was finally able to do it without me supporting her.

One time i was socially responsible is when i went to town and saw a homeless man on a street and he was asking for change. I didnt have any change on me so i went to the shop and bought him food on my card and he was very thankful. This is being socially responsible as i helped out someone in need.

One time i was socially responsible is when it was snowing i saw an elderly man who had fell over. It was dark and he was struggling to get up while everyone was walking past so i decided to help him up and walk him home to his wife. This is socially responsible as i didnt want to leave someone who was injured and needed help.

Cabin Crew assessment

Its important to do assessments in the travel industry to ensure that is keeping up to the same standard and it makes sure everyone knows the same information and practical.

Before the interview i felt nervous as it was the first time i was doing this and it was an interview for cabin crew assessment day. I was also nervous in case i forgot the questions and i needed a good grade for this to get to where i wanted to be.

I felt quite prepared for the assessment as we had been practising with my partner.

After the assessment i felt proud of myself as i answered confidently and we achieved a Merit which was what i was wanting. I think if we answered the questions with more confidence and more knowledge we could have got a distinction. For next time i know to practise more and to be confident and believe in myself.
