By sharing work and achievements by people from other countries and collaboration between countries and organisations is the norm is a good way to get students prepared. In biology, and science in general, the image painted for students of a loan scientists in a lab working away by themselves is long gone and its the age of international cooperation, so making students aware of this and even getting them to collaborate with schools abroad gives them a taste of this reality.

Ways in which the texts, topics, or ideas in your classroom have benefited from contributions from other communities, cultures, and nationalities?

I don't think there is one part of any class that I have carried out that hasn't benefitted from contributions them. Last month the theme was clothing and materials and the number of parents from different cultures that wanted to donate/show or talk about the clothing from their own cultures was overwhelming and having the students talk and discuss these different cultures was great to see. Surprisingly even when the topic was dinosaurs, hearing about which types of fossils were found in which countries was really interesting too and added another layer to the theme.

Working in an international school, we try to do this on a daily basis, but one that comes to mind was our Valentine's event last month. As Chinese NY was around the same time, we decided to do both events at concurrently to show that many holidays and events can be happening all at the same time all around the world, and can and should be celebrated by the people who want to celebrate them.
