J Cole inspired me by telling his story with his words and his great story telling skills. He also inspired me by not being afraid to tell his story no matter the inconvenience it brings him. He inspired me because the way he tells his story is unique compared to anyone else. He also inspired me because he talks about things in society he finds morally wrong. He talks about how teachers and other people who really shouldn't pick favorites always pick favorites. He also inspired me because he has an incredible work ethic and imagination.

Lyric Analysis

I might be low for the moment but I will bounce back
Despite the charges, back to the wall, I fight regardless
Screaming, "Fuck the law, " my life is lawless

That's what you call it
Ain't got to be no psychic to see this is like the farthest thing from heaven
This is hell and I don't mean that hyperbolic
I try to find employment even if it's wiping toilets
But these felonies be making life the hardest
Resisting the temptation to run up and swipe a wallet
Or run up on your yard, snatch your daughter bike and pawn it

I think these lyrics mean that even though he's at the lowest part of his life he will find a way to bounce back and be better. He's also talking about how he has a lot of charges and how he is saying f the law he will do what he wants. He says how he knows this definitely isn't heaven and how his life is going so wrong he feels like its hell. He is trying to find any job he can get even if that means cleaning toilets but the felonies he has makes it difficult to get any job. He is resisting the temptation to steal a wallet or steal and pawn a bike.

Influential Lyrics To Me

The lyrics I chose are "free your mind and everything will follow". I think these lyrics are influential because he's saying if you free your mind then everything else will calm down. I think this is right because normally when you calm down and think about situations they aren't as big of a deal as they seem. This is also influential to me because i've been in situations where everything seems like it's not working out. I then remember these lyrics and clear my mind and I end up realizing not everything is going wrong.

J Cole's fashion style seems to be mainly a lot of oversized shirts. When we see him out in public it's normally in big t-shirts and jerseys. But we have also seen him wear things like trench coats. He also has worn jackets that go over his shirts that aren't as big. He seems to also wear a lot of colorful things and dosen't really wear darker colors.

J Cole talks about racism a decent amount an example of this is in his song "Snow On Tha Bluff." In this song he says "Instead of conveying you holier, come help get us up to speed, sh*t, it's a reason it took like two hundred years for our ancestors just to get freed, these shackles be lockin' the mental way more than the physical I look at freedom like trees, can't grow a forest like overnight." In this song he's making a response to female rappers tweet which was racist towards a certain group of people. J Cole basically made the song pointing out how long his and the other rappers ancestors were treated. In the lyrics I quoted he talks about how it took so long for his people to be freed. J Cole talks about how the shackles his ancestors were held down by would hold them down mentally and physically.
